A trick we used when we were kids was this...

Find a stick about 2" dia, about 4-6 ft long, lean it up against a larger tree at about a 45 deg. angle. Take a fine piece of single strand copper or steel wire and make a sliding noose in it about 3" dia. then tie the other end to the stick about 3' or so off the ground. Bend the noose around so it is on top the stick.

Squirrels are lazy and they will run up the stick every time instead of the tree, thier head goes through the noose, tightens down, they fall off the stick, etc. Then we'd go around after school and get dinner.

My grandpa taught me that trick, they used it during the depression when companies would buy squirrel tails for 2 cents apiece. Good $$ for a kid back then.

We have tons of squirrels where I live, you can go out and get your limit (6) in less than an hour about any time. I use a Ruger .22 pistol.
