Old HAM radio reciever

My grandfather was cleaning out his basement a few months ago and he came across an old radio. He didn't know anything about it. Later, we were visiting the Wright-Patterson AFB museum and saw the same unit in the radio room of a B-29. I've since tried to do a little research on it, and I have found that it is a reciever, model number BC348Q. It was used in aircraft during WWII. I also learned that HAM radio operators sometimes use them. Does anybody have any more information about the unit, or know of a good place to start looking for it?
