Alex - wait until Mark Hinkley gets back from Easter Jeep. He is working on something that should be a good fix for you. It requires welding also so I'd hate to see you weld up something that you might have to grind off - unless your Jeep is undrivable.
PS - that sucks - I've always heard not to run a steering box brace on an XJ for that very reason.
