Thanks Everyone
I had a blast this weekend. I finally have a picture to go with what everyone is talking about when they mention wheeling in Johnson Valley.
Thanks everyone and Scott for letting me weigh down the other half of his jeep. Grey 98 ZJ. |

Just got back my self a few hours ago. It was good to see every one but not enough rigs left that had all there parts still working. I think the count was something like
3 draglinks 1 track bar a set of Wanr axle shafts 3 tires ( 2 of them mine ) 1 power stearing pump, box and bracket 2 fenders 1 CB antena 1 highlift 1 onboair air hose 1 pair of shock mounts all in all a great couple of days we all drove off trail one way or another. Not bad for a group with 7 Jeeps on 1 run and 4 Jeeps on the other 2 runs. a little TJ with a few mods check her out at www.real-jeeps.com

Scott,
What kind of tires did you lose? I lost two BFG's last weekend at JV (tore one and discovered the second one leaking the next day). What trails were you guys running? Jeff

Swamper TSL radials one of the has 12 double overed pluges to the air in it. I know any tire will slice but these went fast I dont know if is was to low of a tire pressure and folding them to much or that I had next to no side wall left from sliding around rocks for a long time.
the other tire that went was a MTR but it looked well used. a little TJ with a few mods check her out at www.real-jeeps.com

It doesn’t matter under what conditions what broke. The components get stressed out so much over the span of their life, that they just go when they are ready to go. It could happen anywhere, even on flat ground.
Actually, thanks to the will of the rock gods, this is exactly how things break, when you are doing nothing special, rather than when you have six feet of air. I am not familiar, with the loss of those Warn axles. I think it happen before we got to Johnson Valley. Probably the usual: the U-joint goes first, and that damages the yokes.

Milan- No Warn's broke. They just had twisted splines, about 2 splines worth.
This was in a D-30 HP running the 5.5 kit, the shafts were new, and a little front wheel drive pivot overstressed them a tad. No breakage, but Garry has a very nice new set of trail spares now. It is impossible to ascertain the value of something until you have paid for it a few times.

Yes I forgot to say the twisted and it was Garry driving. that should explain the failure he was hard on it for over 3 miles straight.
