Check out these babies!!!!!!!!

Ran across this gal on our camping trip! She was about 2 1/2" diameter and must have had 200 babies on her back!

Damn, I came across one of these things crawling across some of my jeep stuff after taking it out of the jeep. I was planning on only moving it (and that's a challenge because I hate spiders so much... heebie jeebies) but when I tapped it with a piece of paper, hundredes of babies started to jump off it's back.

I flipped out and was doing some good old fashioned stomping on EVERYTING. The Jeep, my bags, my tools... ugh, it was nasty.

Oh man that would scare the bejeesus out of me if it got on me. I'll let almost any insect walk around on me but not a spider!

We found a 6" Tarantula a couple years back by Jeep Squeeze.

And then there was the time with all the scorpions...

That's the ONE thing that's nice about living in Illinois. Most of the insects and plants here don't kill people

I hate spiders, but I'll take them over scorpions any day. I've found a couple in the shed and workshop lately.....and one inside the friggin' house. Didn't get much sleep that night.

Glad that wasn't a pic of a scorpion with the babies on her back....that would really freak me out!

Found a scorpion inside my house about 15 years ago (living in Pinecrest at the time...5500 foot elevation). Right on the livingroom floor. Actually, I had just walked by it...barefoot no less. It got relocated outside pronto.

We were at camp one night when about a hundred or so small ones started running into the fire. We first noticed them when we "heard" all the little feet rustling on the tarp we set down between the chairs. Then we started seeing them run into the fire pit. Needless to say we yanked the tarp and sat with our feet in our chairs the rest of the night.

That was the same trip I found the Gopher Snake in my glove box, or actually, my at the time 12 yr old son, did. He spent the rest of that trip sitting on his feet.

It's funny you say that. At this year's HDR, I was tending the fire and after picking up my fire poke stick, I felt something on my arm. Realizing I just picked up a stick from the wool pile, I thought it was a spider. I brushed it off and to my surprise, it was a scorpion. It then proceeded to run into the fire .
At least that's were I last saw it heading while I was jumping up and down in case there were more on me.
Do they do this when found?

I hate scorpions as much as the next guy but I don't freak out when I see one... Just kill it and move on...
I was working under my 65 stang when I had one drop out of the car next to me. I was on my feet in no time flat and the little bugger was flat in no time at all.

im going to have to try the fire thing... that sounds kinda cool.

Ahhhh....yuck. I'd have to call my WIFE to kill that one.

She grew up in Hawaii and they have huge flying spiders there (They call 'em KD Dids - I think they are actually like a very large locust).

Well god only knows what kills people in KILLDEER!

And probably all of the species of spiders and insects that DO kill people in Northern Illinois can be found somewhere in my basement or in my barn!

Thanks HB! I knew they were locust ... and they are very big (like a Mack truck), make lots of noise (like a Monster Truck Pull) and did I mention that they like to FLY (as in dive bomb yer butt like a Screamin' Eagle)!!!

We do not have MONSTER size Locust in Nor Cal.....so I'll still call my wife or get my gun if I see either of the spiders shown above.

Its a Camel Spider. Its a cross between a Spider and a Scorpion! We grabbed it with a sock and thought we got it out of the tent. Come to find out it fell in my jacket that I was using for a pillow all night!!!

<shudder>

I hate spiders and bugs
