your favorite waterfall

A guy I ran a trail with last week sent me a few digitals that his wife took of the group while we were having fun.

This was the 1st of three waterfalls on the trail. I nailed the 2nd without any assistance but winched on this one and the 3rd.

Not dial-up friendly..... (1MB)

Edit: Post a link to your friendly waterfall.

Stu - What trail is that? Looks like fun!

No wheeling for me until mid-May.

Steve....I know which picture you speak of.

That pic is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO old that the waterfall has eroded away to just a little 1' tall ledge now.....I saw it just last month when I was out at the Tanks.

Yeah, times change, don't they? Speaking of that, when are we going to burn a trail together? You got that heep running yet? (maybe I should clarify that....is it trail worthy yet?)

1' ???? Say it isn't sooo!!! It used to be about 50' with two ledges on the way up. Are you sure we are talking about the same one? I heard that area was going to be closed soon anyway.

The Jeep is running!!! The new cage was just finished last week except for tying it into the frame. I need to fab up some skid plates, tune her up a little and she will be trail worthy...give me about 1 month (prior committments) and I'll start a thread about the new maiden voyage which I hope you will participate in!!!!

Ah - haven't run Axle Alley yet. It looks a little like the second waterfall on Overdose. Fred and I walked part of that trail a few weeks ago and hope to give it a shot sometime soon.

Steve.....I'm down for your maiden run....just give me a little head's up time to schedule things if need be. It will be nice to have you back on the trail again.

Dan.....sounds good. It is a fun trail but not overly difficult, unless you vow not to use your winch. Then I'm thinking lots of spare shafts, u-joints, etc.

On the Stairway to Heaven trail at the Longhorn Ranch (just North of Big Bend National Park in West Texas), there are some kick ass waterfalls and climbs.
Here's one of them:
waterfall?
and from the other side
I know it looks like nothing, but it's for a reason that there is an anchor point in the rocks
Or this one:
yes, it's a CJ5
to put it into perspective

Now as for true waterfalls -> the most beautiful ones I've ever seen were in New Zealand

At least *some* of the trails in FJ are finally starting to dry up.

Dan and I have run Bad Medicine 3 times in the last 4 or 5 weeks, and it's been wetter 'n hell...
That last waterfall has been pretty much impassable.

Dan, Highway To Hell is next, as soon as you get back off vacation (just in time for the heat ), *then* bad Medicine and that #$)($#@ last waterfall....

Stu,
Nice shots.
A couple of people that we run with describe AA (for SWB Jeeps) as "boring"..
Three waterfalls, with a few rocks.
The 1st and last waterfall is not SWB friendly (i.e. winch 'em).. The 2nd waterfall is usually rather easily doable by TJ's set up as most of ours are

Chris, Erik, Al and ChrisL went on a sweet little offshoot of Last Chance.

Here are a few of the pics:

Looking up the first one:

ChrisL ran it without help:

The second waterfull, Al running up it:

We had never run this trail before, We ran out of time and ended up turning around and coming back down:

I ended up naming this "Dead End Wash"

It would be fun to take some more time and see where it goes

By the time I get back it had better be dry up there. I'm gonna be in serious need of a wheeling fix...I'm already going into withdrawals. I may have to drive the Jeep to work and rearrange the landscaping....

Hey Jeeper! Haven't seen you since Broken Arrow. Here's a pic of the 50' waterfall in the White Tanks.

The best waterfall I have run to date in my short wheeling career.

Welder at Calallantee in Mountain City, TN. It's only about 8 or 10 ft and not completely vertical. But it sure is a lot of fun.

The approach to the waterfall:

Hey, there's actually water on those waterfalls!

Actually, we've had lots of running water lately, too. Makes things much more, um, interesting....

Yep - too bad it's closed.

Last time I went up, it was 8 waterfalls. The El Nino rains of '97/'98 added an 8th.

Jim....WTF was that video thing? A 6 minute video with less than 90 seconds of video and the rest is music? ARGH......if I wanted to download music (which I don't), I would use some kind of on-line service.

Yup, that's the one

I wouldn't call the water "flowing" then, just an itty bitty trickle, comparatively speaking.
Four or five weeks ago, when Dan and I ran it the first time, the water was raging over it about waster deep about 1/2 way where the guy in the beginning of the video, with the white shirt, is standing.

The last time I tried it, it was running more and I got wedged against the verticle wall on the left side (couldn't turn the steering wheel at all, plus the way, when I wedged myself, unlocked the left front wheel) and the big rock at the base.
We (well, Dan did, I was sort of stuck in the Jeep) hi-lifted the rear (right rear) enough to get a few rocks under the right rear tire, allowing me to back out *over* that big rock at the base.

Sorry about the music Stu I thought I trimmed it .
Fred I got wedged the first time I did that thing and this time stayed higher on the passenger side to avoid that. Just about everyone else had to use the winch the day I took the video.

I think if it would have been that dry when we tried it Fred probably would have made it up, but it was just too slick still. The water was pretty much all the way across, and was flowing pretty good.
