Heater / Radio Cover Removal

Simple question I hope...... I bought my Wrangler used and it doesnt have a book. I plan on getting a HAYNES or CHILTONS but for now can anyone tell me how to get the cover off from around the heater and radio. I'm planning on installing a CD changer and need to get in this area. Also any suggestions on a good mounting place from the changer?

Try doing a search on Jeepsunlimited for an online FSM (field service manual).

We had one linked here from Seth but it doesn't work (I just tried it).

You might also google TJ FSM and find it.

Remove the top piece of trim next to the windshield.

It pries up easily.

Then remove the two screws that were hidden under that now gone trim piece, that hold the radio/heater cover on.

Remove the ashtray and remove the last screw.

Pry the cover off. It comes off as about as easy as the windshield trim.

Our '99 WJ dash comes apart the same way.

No need to thank me for the factory manual link.

ftp://jeep:fsm@66.23.199.206

(It's not my link BTW).

FWIW, I wouldn't bother with a CD changer in your Jeep. I'd get an Ipod or equivalent and play it through your stereo with an RF transmittor doo-hickie. After my 20G Dell Jukebox gets here, my CD-changer in my Honda will collect dust.
