Need help with the Save JV booklet

The last page has the caption- Our JV, it means everything to us

Under the quote from Sergey, we need to add a line that outlines the intent of the booklet. That is, we want to keep the area open and intact.

Right now Matt has added the following-

Please don't take this land

While that's okay, neither Matt or I are exactly overjoyed with it.

Can anyone come up with something better please?

Please don't take this land is what we are trying to say, but the booklet will be read by folks who aren't trying to take it, but instead trying to help us keep it open and intact.

How about: "Please keep this land free" or something in that tone?

The Marines would probably think they're already doing just that.

Something along those lines:

Johnson Valley OHV, a spectacular area that should remain open for future generations to enjoy (explore).

Johnson Valley OHV- too beautiful, too precious, too unique to lose.

What about steering the reader to other places to get involved to help the cause?

Ya, I'm not too good at this stuff but I figured I might as well get the ball rolling.

I like what you said Lawrence.

Blaine, I'm still trying to come up with a better line.

I quite like Jerry's;
"too beautiful, too precious, too unique to lose"

When does this need to be finalised? We are holding up the printer, aren't we?

We have about 5 days. The coils for coil bind are on order and should arrive in about 6 days.

Maybe add something about the next generation(s) being able to enjoy the sport or recreation as pictured/described in the booklet...?

Johnson Valley OHV, a spectacular area with much beauty and history that we have been able to enjoy and we hope that others after us get the same opportunity.

It is our jewel and should remain so, forever.

Let's keep it's legacy alive for generations to come.

Filled with wonder and adventure.

A jewel in the rough, an adventure waiting to be had.

And that's why we want JV OHV to remain public, wouldn't you?

Feel free to call me names, but here is a request from me. Try to minimize using words such as “spectacular,” instead, explain what is so spectacular about it.

Thank you to everybody who is writing something. I know it is tough.

P.S. I am not picking on ABQ TJ in particular, just on a trend I am noticing.

Johnson Valley OHV: Keep this public land open.

Or

Johnson Valley OHV: Keep California's Recreational Areas Open.

Maybe someone can come up with something better, but we definitely need something short, concise and to the point. You have the whole rest of the book to explain why JV is special.

BTW, how long has Johnson Valley been an OHV area? How long has it been in it's current usage? Maybe we could come up with a tag line that way.

Does the Johnson Valley belong to the people? Quotes in this booklet are from people who feel that they belong to the Johnson Valley. Take this land away and you will be ripping it out from living, beating hearts. They won?t forget, and years down the road these people will be showing pictures to their children?s children, and telling stories that there was time when it became crystal clear that something was being lost that could never be replaced.

/\/\/\ I agree with the sentiment Sergey but that's probably a bit to forceful.

BTW, have you guys googled Johnson Valley OHV yet?

The first two or three pages are all posts on the various off road forums about the potential closure and about getting organized.

No one knows how long JV has been open in it's current usage?

I tried searching but couldn't find any history on JV.

I know a guy who visited America before Columb, and the guy says that the Johnson Valley was already open back then.

Thank you, I also have a play on a famous quote environmentalists like to use encoded there:

We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.
-Aldo Leopold

...an answer if you will.

Our JV
It means
everything to us

Growing up in Russia
I’d read books about
Deserts and dreamed about
exploring one. When I saw the Johnson
Valley for the first time it was everything I
imagined and more. It is now my favorite
place to get away from the busy everyday life.

Sergey Nosov, 32 San Diego, CA.

Let's keep it more than just a collection of memories.

Blaine,

Just a heads-up to let you know that I just sent you an email with some potential ideas for the closing caption in the Save JV booklet.

Don
