TJRON: DIY Sunrider top....

I admit it,

After seeing the post about the DIY sunrider top on JU it sparked my intrest.

Anyway, do you have a write up of sorts on how to make my factory top fold back like the sun rider?

Thanks

Justin

Someone PMed me on JU about this and I forgot. I never saw the thread so I must not be spending enough time over there harassing folks.
First you remove the top from the header. Put the frame and header back on the Jeep and make a mark to show how the frame lays in the door surround.
Next, remove the plastic header from the tubes. I think I ground a rivet off.

Then you cut about six inches from the tubes and screw the frames to the door surrounds in the position you marked.

Now you make a pivot for the six inch pieces you cut off and screw them into the frame. I've taken no pictures of this but I can.
Screw the fabric top back onto the header.
You pivot the six inch pieces up and put the header into the tubes and close as you always did. To open lift the header off the six inch tubes and fold it back and double it over. Hold it down with a bungee accross the top. It rides good up to 60+ mph. You can make the top fit tighter than it did stock by moving the places you screw the frame to the door surround.
The bad part is it's now a PIA to take the top off or drop it all the way down as it's screwed down and in pieces.
Mine is in the semi-permanent stage. It worked with the spare parts I had and I've never bothered to "clean" it up. As long as I can see up I don't usually need the top off.
I hope this helps.
Ron

Me? Harrasing? NEVER

Thanks for the writeup. I think I'm going to see if I can devise a quick release method of attaching the top to the Door Surrounds.
