Lightbulb can i make liquid check/rollover valves using common parts?

My CJ is missing the liquid check & rollover valves that would normally exist near the gas tank, preventing liquid from getting into the fuel vapor line that goes to the vapor canister.

These are hard to find, no longer made parts from what I've been told. I might have a local source for the check valve, but I find myself wondering if I can make the equivalent using non OEM parts, either common auto parts store stuff or parts from other vehicles that are easier to find.

Anybody done this?

Thanks,
Jeff

How about a valve from one of those shake up-and-down gasoline siphon hoses like Harbor Freight Tools sells? Made for gasoline, it has a ball inside a copper housing that permits fuel flow in just one direction. Not to sure about the quality but it's a start...

That's a pretty good idea, I'll have to look into those. A local Jeep guy might have a check valve for me, will find out this weekend. If not, we'll see what I can come up with in its place.

Thanks,
Jeff

Send a message via AIM to Dukes69
are you looking for an inline check valve or one that is on/in the tank itself?

Inline, somewhere between the tank and the vapor canister. Probably closer to the tank would be more optimal.
