tranny issues

Hi All
I have a 1998 Jeep Sahara, with 3spd auto tranny. I've been having problems the transmission. In the cold it starts to slip. It also is having a hard time shifting from 2nd to 3rd (slips every now and then). It's going right? Can i put a 4spd auto?

Have you checked the obvious....is you fluid level correct?

I don't have any auto so I can't comment about them needing any adjustments (bands?) but perhaps someone that as a TJ 3 speed auto can.

Yes, you can put in a 4 speed auto, but it is not a simple bolt up procedure. Here is a link to one I helped with....

Sure but you'll need a new computer, driveshaft and some other goodies and if you are in CA you'll have to go to a smog referee to pass smog.

Do they actually crawl under the vehicle and ID the tranny you have installed?

Did you know that the AW-4 that I referenced has its own transmission control unit? (computer)

Why can't we just trust everyone to have the right tranny under there Jeep?
