Sierra Trek Pics ( warning big pics )

a few shots of Fridays SWB run.

Sunrise Ridge, Friday Morning

The trail leader "Fools Gold"

The Grand Grocery Bus

Yours truly on Winch Hill 3

Wider isn't always better ...

Hey, who turned out the lights... and how is that towel hanging in mid air

Ok, lights are back on again.

Wait a minute... We haven't gone very far??? Did we miss dinner? And Breakfast? What day is this?

Water break, stack some more rocks, and change the length of the strap again.

steep hill and loose dirt, back to winching

WOO HOO we reached winch hill 5 and reinforcements have arrived!!

Another rig helps with winching. The winch line is a tippy side hill so I keep a safty line hooked up just in case

My digital camera ran out of space about now I screwed up and set it to Hi Res

Anway, the they got him a few more feet and a stout V8 jeep with 1 ton drivetrain, crawler gears and 38" boggers came around on the right side and took over as the strap rig. He still struggled but was able to get him around the next corner and 1/2 way up the next hill. A second strap rig hooked up to the first and with 8 wheel drive the dead YJ was hauled up up and away.

I'm hope someone in our group got a good pic.

Back in camp, around 2pm on Saturday. Time for a shower and some food

the rest of the pics are here on webshots.

Dan,

That section of Winch Hill 3 was fun. 15x10 wheels like mine would get wedged right in (even though it looked wide enough). Those that were wide had to take that funny line by climbing the right side rock. Watched a Toyota try that line and break an axle shaft. Watched a number of other rigs make several attempts to get through some unsuccessful. It didn't look that bad but after watching everyone else have trouble going through, I took the go around. I didn't want to anythign on the first trail when I still had to make it through the Rubicon. Nice trail though it sure made the Rubicon seem easy the week after.

My TJ fits that squeeze perfectly. I scrub both tires but don't have to climb a thing. But some climb the wall just for kicks.

Here's a great shot from sierra trek 99

the video of it is here. Its pretty cool

btw, he's the guy we helped off the hill this year.

anyway, I like both of these trails alot. I think fordyce needs more close attention for longer periods, whereas on the con there are stretches where you can just drive without really thinking.
