Trying out the new lens
I just got a Nikon AF-S 12-24mm f/4 G IF-ED lens for my camera. I went to a home-theater performance to try the new lens out. Wide open, under available light conditions it performed pretty well, I think.
If you are bored, and have nothing else to do, here are some shots: http://www.pronografics.com/pictures...06_kk_Theatre/ I am fixing to go back to the old trucks museum in Campo, and this is the lens I plan to use. Should get some interesting angles, me thinks.

that sure is a WIIIIDE lens. i like how much it takes into the picture in such a small room, but the fish eye effect, i could do without.
looks like a fun party! |

My favorite is the Nikon AF-S VR 70-200mm
Also pretty good in low light, the next one here is a hand-held shot: |

Speaking of cameras. I want to get an entry-level digital SLR. What's the best bang for the buck? Under $1000 with lens. Something like Olympus Evolt E-500 (8.0 Megapixel, SLR, Digital Camera (Black) with Olympus 14-45mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko EZ Zoom Lens)

Dennis and kranky_kel,
I am a Nikon guy, so I am going to suggest Nikon. A Canon guy will suggest Canon, and an Olympus guy will suggest Olympus. When you are buying an SLR camera you are buying into the system. The most important elements of the camera system is lenses; you will be changing camera bodies through the years, but buying good lenses is a long term investment. How about this for starters: Nikon D50 camera body $524.95 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens $117.14 2GB Memory Card $46.94 Guide book $13.59 And you will still have just under $300 left towards your next lens or accessory, once you figure out which direction you want to progress. [prices may fluctuate]

i have a canon 10d, and have been very happy with it thus far. they have since had the 20d, and now the 30d. each is over a grand. the lenses is where the money goes. the lens i have been playing with is the 24-70 f2.8 L it is over a grand, as is the 100-400 L lens i also enjoy. it is easy to get hooked and blow some money on all of this stuff. the lenses seem to really hold their value well. i could sell each of them for about 100 bucks less than what i paid. be sure to do your research before you plunk down big bucks on a camera or the lenses that work with it. those of you canon folks in the market for a couple of very nice lenses, let me know. i have a sigma 24-70 2.8 ex lens as well as a 70-200 f2.8 ex for sale. they are both great lenses. the 24-70, i used for about 8 mos., and the 70-200 sat in the bag except for the 3-4 times i used it. let me know if anyone is in the market for these items. some lens review info: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...ns-Review.aspx |

I really like my Cannon XD. now - I got it mostly due to the fact that I inherited all my dad's Cannon lenses.
You want a great camera - I have a Cannon EOS in my garage collecting dust - fantastic SLR with the eye focus capability - trouble is it shoots film!! THE SHAME. I'd move it at a great price just so it would get used. Plus I have a case or two of 35mm. Jeff |

Jeff,
There was a party after the performance, but I did not attend. As soon as the performance has concluded I was off to an even bigger party. |
