Currie Steering System

Is this the Currie steering set up that is being re-designed, that people are waiting for?

http://128.121.255.231/purchase/prod...31673&item=422

I'm sure it's only a matter of time until my drag link tweaks, and I'm wondering if this is the thing to go to when I need to replace parts. Thanks.

That picture is no longer representative of the new system. It is much beefier now and the area where the tie-rod attaches is about the size of the bottom of a coke can. It has a recess in the center of it for the castle nut.

The new TRE's have over 45 degrees of movement, the angles of them are as such that they are parallel to the ground at ride height.

The heat treat is correct now and the 6 or so new prototypes are being tested in a Jeep Speed Cherokee in a desert race.

The existing tie rods are being sent out for heat treatment and will be tested upon return for their resistance to bending.

John appeared to be very happy with this batch of prototypes. The tapered pins have been heat treated to stop the annoying stretching problem and the resultant inability of the user to keep them tight.

I know the next question is when and there is no answer yet. John is working as fast and hard on this as is possible.

It now appears that the higher degree of travel in the ball joints will let some GC owners run them successfully. Dependant on lift height. Not sure what the upper limit is yet.

You are just another ride in the amusement park of my mind.

Man I could use one of these today. Do they need any more test vehicles? I tried replacing the TRE's on my old RE TR with the part numbers that they told me and they dont fit. I also cant get one of the old ends off the tie rod.

Is the price going to be the same for the new ones?

Now that's what I like to hear My ZJ is at 6" of lift so hopefully that is at or below the threshold.

Jim, the price will increase by around 50 dollars. This will not apply to current owners of the set. Those will be replaced at no charge. There is still some concern over whether or not the tie-rod will be replaced, or just the draglink. They are waiting on the tie-rods to come back from heat treat for testing.

The one I saw today was on a lifted Cherokee and all of the angles at the TRE's were neutral. You should be able to make it work out of the box and a little tweaking of the ends will let it work with higher lifts. I am thinking they will set a height at which they no longer recommend it, but may sell you one anyway.

Just out of curiosity, anyone care to guess what the minimum order quantity on something like this is?

I like the way my Jeep is now..... I'd just like it, well, a little higher off the ground with more ground clearance!

Um, for the end user I would hope one.

Are they the only ones selling an aftermarket drag link? I just dont know if I should hold out for this or just get another Heavy duty tie rod from RE or someone else.

Jim, they are the only stock replacements that I know of. Of course there could be someone that I don't know about.

Have you considered the ZJ tie rod from the 5.2 97? A little hunting will usually find a good price on one and it will make a good spare if you go to the Currie set-up later on.

I probably misunderstood something a while back. (so what else is new?)

Does the Currie draglink and tie rod parts interchange with stock TJ parts? (ie., I could run a Currie draglink and a OEM tie rod?)

I was under the impression that it was a matched pair of components that had to be ran together.

Does the Currie stuff raise anything, i.e., put anything on top of the knuckle?

The Currie (at least the last version I had) will not interchange with stock componants and it does not raise anything.
