Funny looking Jeep club member
Everyone seemed to think my Jeep would look funny with a 6" Full Traction lift and just 35" tires. Here is a follow up picture of my funny looking Jeep. Time to go wheeling now.
Me be happy. Phil. |

Phil,
Looks great! It doesn't really look much taller than the typical RE 4.5" lift with 1" body lift on 35's which seems to work well. Since you haven't wheeled it yet, how does the street ride compared to other lifts? BTW, nice color!

Do you get any vibes at all?
I've loved that color since it came out! I WILL get one in a few years used. BTW What did you end up doing for the exhuast? Bob

Good for you Phil. Let's go. Howell's Jeep is coming along. Maybe a camping trip in the spring?

Phil, How do you like the kit? I am putting one on for a friend next month. Any issues on the install? What did you use for mufflers? Thanks!

This is the best driving lifted Jeep I have owned. It feels rock solid on the highway, without any of the typical dive and squat manners of prior Teraflex, Currie, and RE lifted short arm Jeeps. It is even a lot better than a long arm lifted Jeep I had that was a copy of an RE long arm lift. All of those Jeeps would have the back end squat a couple of inches when you shifted the auto trans into gear with the brake pedal pressed, where as this Jeep does not move up or down at all when you shift it into gear. So it looks like Full Traction has the antisquat part of their lift figured out to a tee. The Jeep also tracks great on the highway. It cost me $140 for a four wheel alignment that took the alignment shop the better part of half a day to do, but they must have done a good job because the Jeep tracks straighter on the highway and stays in one lane easier now than it did when it was completely stock. This Jeep is still fun to drive, which is nice, and unlike some other lifted Jeeps I have had.
For the exhaust I just told the exhaust shop to "keep it quiet". What they ended up doing was keeping the two cats on the header collectors, and losing the main cat. They tell me it is still completely legal where I live, but I had better not move to a metropolitan area like Salt Lake City. I still have the main cat down in my basement in case I need to put it back on some day, but it did not fit above the higher clearance transfer case skid plate with the Full Traction lift anyway. For mufflers I ended up with three drag race mufflers in series. Each muffler is only eight inches long, and has only a 1/2" bigger radius than the 2 1/2" diameter exhaust pipe. Surprisingly the Jeep is very quiet, and likely makes no more db than a stock Jeep, but with a deeper rumble to it. The exhaust seems to flow real good to. Anyway, I really like the exhaust, ... it sounds a whole lot better than ANY other "performance" exhaust I have ever had. I am not one of those people that likes the sound of a Flowmaster, Dynomax, Gibson, or similar style muffler on a straight six powered Jeep. Phil. |

Scratch,
When we originally installed the lift we had the pinion rotated way too high, and there was a driveline vibration from that. I extended the lower rear control arm heim joints by a full six turns, which lowered the pinion by about two inches and lined it up better, but I still have a very very slight vibration at full throttle, when at certain speeds. I need to find my angle gauge so I can measure the driveline angle and get it set right. It is just "close" right now, and has not been really dialed in. Even so, the vibration I have now is so minor that if I could not improve it with some tuning it would be just fine. Phil. |
