My tires recently began to squeal

The TJ's alignment seems fine and it's running the Currie steering setup so the Ackerman angle should be ok, can anyone think of a reason my front tires recently began squealing when making slow-speed turns on smooth paved surfaces? Nothing has changed, same wheels and tires, toe-in is fine.

You have a Lockright up front? With mine, my tires squeal frequently when making slow, tight turns in parking lots. Can't say why that would have developed all of a sudden.

I have a No-Slip locker which is close enough to a Lockrite to say yes to your answer. Maybe it's just the tires aged enough recently so they're a bit harder and changed how they react to the smooth surface of the parking garage I noticed the squealing in. The locker thing you mention could definitely be it since even in 2wd, the No-Slip still is kinda-sorta locked up on low friction surfaces like that. Thanks.

You are driving faster in the parking lot now?

I honestly can't remember a time my tires didn't squeek, on either my ZJ or TJ, when turning on a smooth concrete surface.

As another thought how are your ball joints Jerry? I have a truck (not a Jeep) that squeeled both in slow turn situations and in more aggressive turns at medium speed (like on a canyon road). With new ball joints all was good again. It is IFS but the same could apply to a solid axle I suppose.

That's a good thought Art, I need to check my ball joints out. With 178,000 miles on them, though I haven't noticed any problem with them, I wouldn't be surpised if they need replacing.
