Currie steering setup
I got a currie steering setup. I installed it on a 2003 Rubi. Beginning of March is when I installed it.
Anyways the drag link end at the pitman arm is cracked at the base of it. If I put grease in it, it comes out of the crack and goes everywhere. I personally dont think it is safe to drive. Due to the unknown fact of what if it comes apart somehow. I called them this morning and the guy name started with a D.--Said I have no warranty on it. Even thought it wasnt me who broke it. Says the part costs $109 just for the end piece. He says there is no warranty at all on the product. I found that hard to believe. Anyways I sent an email asking them if it was true there was no warranty. I will wait for their response and post up if it is good or bad. Josh |

Let's get a pic of where the crack is so I can show it to John and see what he says.

When you went to put grease in, was it really hard to pump the first few times?
Edit- You can drive it with that crack. The ball on the end of the tapered pin goes in from that side and you won't have catastrophic failure. It will just leak a bit of grease here and there.

I put some in it when I installed it. And I usually put some in all of them every 3 months or so. I wheel it about 3 times a month.
With the crack I would feel better if it wasn't there. That is why I need it replaced. I don't really want grease coming out of it at all. |

since the crack is not structural, couldnt you just put some JB weld on it, and move on?

If the center is coned upwards where the grease fitting is, then too much pressure was used to fill it with grease when it didn't want any. That coning will also reduce pressure on the spring and induce play in the joint that could lead to D/W. I can get the part warrantied if the cap isn't coned. If it's coned, it's much harder because that can be attributed to unintentional user error.

No I didn't put too much in. The only other people who have touched my Jeep is when I drop it off for service and oil change. I understand what you guys are saying about forcing it in there and coning out and forcing so much pressure and grease in there to crack the bottom of it.
But could it have occured from something else? Wouldn't it take alot of pressure to do that? |

Please note that I said POSSIBLE. If you have any rock rash marks on the draglink, then it may have happened that way.

I've got about a 50/50 chance of getting it done and if nothing else, I can get you a fair discount on a new part.
