Just got my Avalanche High steer stuff!!!

Whoa this stuff is beafy! I went with Avalanche High steer arms for Flat knuckel 44, Spacer to get it over the SOA springs, 5/8 heims, 1.5x.250wall mild steel tubing. various bushings, jam nuts etc.

Now, just need to drill and tap the knuckles, measure, measure again, cut the tubing to length, weld the tube adapters, and peice the whole thing together! Can't work on it this weekend but will see If I can get something going the following. Still not sure If I want to sleave the tie-rod or not.

Sounds pretty good. Did you make a decision as to the engine situation?

Yep, gonna go with the 305. Fuel injection was the deciding factor along with the fact that I need a valve job on the 400. Might use the 400 in some other fabricated thingy yet to be detrmined. (NO...not like Jimmy's!)

Excellent! So what's the pro's & con's to a sleave for the tie-rod? Are you talking about wrapping it for extra beef?

Jeeper, one of the things I ran into on my TJ, was increasing the diameter of the rods really caused some interference issues. 1 1/4" on a TJ is about as big as I can go and get lock to lock steering.

Try the stuff first and see if you have room for bigger if you need it.

You are just another ride in the amusement park of my mind.

I'll be doing some test fitting before I decide to sleave or not. One of the main issues would be the clearance over the springs. I'm also considering a shackle reversal and moving the axle forward about an inch or so. This may cause some bind with a sleave as well...just have to take a little look-see before I start putting everything together.

Here's the knuckle...

Steve, you could always buy some spring perches and move that big ole nasty stack of springs under the axle where it would be out of your way.

Steve, does AE take into account any Ackermann stuff when they make the arms? Not that it looks like you will be doing much street driving, but just curious.

To be honest, I didn't ask. Since most of their stuff is for off-road, I would fathom to guess that they do not. However, having said that, isn't Asckerman the ability of the inside wheel in a corner to follow a smaller radius than the outside wheel? I would guess that this can be acheived through angling the steering arms and the arms I have are in fact angled. However, I am by no-means a steering expert so I guess my answer should be...Hell, I don't konw!

Here, this link may help...gives a pretty good description of the high steer setup.
