Web site design change

The JeepBBS website design will change in the near future. We will use new colors and the top of the page will look different.

The purpose of this message is to give a fair warning, so you don?t panic when you notice the changes for the first time.

Thank you.

I am putting finishing touches on the new design.

Here is a link to a work in progress sample page:
http://www.jeepbbs.net/D2006/index.html

If the page looks hard to read on your screen, or you notice something wrong with it, please let me know, and let me know what OS and what web browser you are using.

Thanks.

Seems easy to read for me. Use Windows XP and MSN.

Thanks Don.

First of the actual web-site pages has been updated to the new look and feel, the technical links section:

http://www.jeepbbs.net/links/

Other pages will be coming on-line with the new design shortly.

The main forum page appears stretched vertically for me now, but not the others. Very strange....

Same here, looks like the column widths of the forum titles could be made a little wider which might help. (if they are adjustable)

For me the 4th picture on the top of the pages is half cut off.
I'm running Firefox.

Larry and David,

Could you please go to Quick Links ? Edit Options, and at the bottom of that page, under Miscellaneous Options, change Forum Skin to "JeepBBS Classic Style", and click the ?Save Changes? button. This should revert to the style we had before. Then let me know if you still experience the width issues.

I just want to figure out if this is something that the new style changes brought, or something that we had all along.

Larry, are you saying that this page for example doesn?t stretch to almost fill the width of your screen. Or by other pages you refer to the pages like the Technical Links page? The pages like the Technical Links page are designed to stretch to a certain limit, and then stop stretching to prevent it from going too wide (too wide pages are hard to read). Stretch limiting does not work on Internet Explorer 6 and earlier, but should work with all other modern browsers, including Internet Explorer 7, Opera, and Firefox.

David, I figure the picture is half cut off because it does not fit on the screen, right? I agree that it doesn?t look all that great when a picture is cut off, but how do you think we can fix that? On my monitor (widescreen at 1920x1200) I see all the pictures plus enough blank green space to fit five more pictures.

Thank you.

That didn't work Sergey....

On all pages I get full width, but on the main forum page it appears stretched vertically even though I'm getting full width. All other pages appear normal, whether its a subforum or a thread in a subforum.

HTH....and I run XP media edition.

Larry,

If switching to the old style didn't fix the problem, it means we had this issue before.
What exactly is stretched vertically?

Thank you,
Sergey

Oh, I see. The "Forum" column on the forums index page is too narrow. I'll see what I can do to fix that. Thank you very much.

Larry,

Ok, I think it should be better now. But to fix that I had to decrease the number of last thread title maximum displayed characters for the forum listings display from 85 to 48.

So, that page looks a little worse on wide monitors, but much better on narrow monitors. It’s a compromise.

You noticed this problem just now probably because one of the current last titles is particularly wide, the “AX-15 tranny, clutch, master/slave hydraulic clutch system, San Diego pickup only” one.

Thanks,
Sergey

David,

I think I have an idea on how to fix the picture cutting issue. I should rearrange the pictures so that the cutting line goes right between the pictures when stitched to a number of standard monitor resolutions.

I am not going to do this today. But I'll keep it in mind.

Thank you
Sergey

Yes I'm sure my monitor is too small and thats the problem. I'll buy a bigger monitor and all will be good.

I'm seeing 3 1/3 pics at the top too. In the 1/3 pic, I see somebody giving a thumbs up, but nothing right of the hand, it's cut off.

Possibly my smallish 13" laptop monitor has something to do with it.

I'm running Windows XP Professional.

Everything fits my display nicely. I see all 5 pictures, and everything is laid out nicely.

19" widescreen @ 1440x900 on Vista Home Premium.

Don't change a thing!

I guess us non-widescreen monitor folks are out of luck.

For 6 months or so now.

The PC I built back in '02 finally died. It was a great system that served me very well the past 5 years.

I was going to build another, but honestly didn't have the time.

So I bought a nice Media Center PC.

It came with Vista, which I really like.

Why?

Like the new look (especially the pics up top) but have to agree with Larry that the Blue/Green kinda caught me off gaurd.

But... the pink "online community" is a bit brokeback for my metrosexuality to be comfortable with ;)

We had a one color scheme before. Now it?s a tri-color scheme: green, blue, and red, if you wish. This is three times as sophisticated. You may not like it now because you are used to the old scheme; just give it some time. But if you absolutely positively can?t stand the new colors, feel free to switch to the old style. The instructions on how to do it are posted earlier in this thread.

Thanks.

I like the old style. :D Maybe some more tweaking to make the new colors blend a bit better. vB styles allow for a lot of tweaking. Have fun.

I can understand the sentiment. I hated every redesign of every Internet site I had been frequent too, including the recent redesign of the cnn.com web site. Yet I got used to all.

Trust me, just give it some time.

Said that, I am game to try any colors you guys want. Shoot me the colors, we?ll try them on, and we?ll see whose scheme is better. The scheme should be based on three colors.
