Bluetooth Headset
What is the best Bluetooth Headset for in vehicle use? I wouldn't expect one to work in an open jeep at freeway speeds, but what's everybody's experience with these gizmos?
I am looking for the headset to comply with the CA hands-free law going in effect on January 1, 2008 (?). |

Don't know which one is best but I use the Nokia BH-900. From my end, I can hear clearly, and it has decent talk/standby time. From the other person's end, my wife says I sound like I am in a tunnel, and it seems to pick up every sound around me.

Sergey, I got the Jawbone based on the info/advice in this thread http://www.jeepbbs.net/forums/showthread.php?t=12046
It works fantastic, and those on the other end comment on how clear it is. I just bought one for someone for christmas as well, and found the best price to be here http://www.jawbone.com/?gclid=CJfGiu...FRAjhgod6gbJXQ Free shipping too |

Dunno if you can get it there, but I have the Samsung WAP210. Teeny little thing but seems to be working well enough. I have yet to see how it gets along with my Bluetooth GPS unit that the phone uses for Tomtom.

I've found a wired earbud works fine.

A wired headset works great, except it?s not going to help me because I won?t connect and disconnect wires to the phone every time I jump in and out of the vehicle; I am lazy.

You can take medication for that.

I wish they made this in a Bluetooth model. With my hearing and how noisy my TJ is, it'd be great. Too bad it'd be illegal to use on the street.

I have a tank helmet in my jeep with full communication garniture. The cable is as thick as my finger, and the connector is almost as big as the cellular phone.

I use the motorola t-305. It is an in car unit that clips to the visor. You can use it with the soft top no problem and you don't look like you are from outer space with that stupid thing attached to your head.

I am still procrastinating. Is Jawbone still the best?

I just can't bring myself to go blue-tooth. The idea has always been kind of creepy to me starting with seeing Lobot way back in the day. I just use the wired headset that comes with the phone. I've been doing it for 2 years already. I don't mind plugging and unplugging the phone when getting in and out of the vehicle. (From stuff I've seen around the net, the Jawbone is supposed to be pretty good). BTW, how much does Lobot look like Locke from LOST? Strange. |

Looks like there is a new version of Jawbone Bluetooth headset – "The New Jawbone" – aka, "Jawbone II." The price on the street is about 1.7 times more expensive than the price of the original Jawbone.
I'll think for a couple of days and probably give the new one a try. May as well go with the expensive stuff to make sure I am giving this whole Bluetooth headset idea due diligence. |

Sergey updated to Serbot ver. 2.0, now with blue-tooth enhanced communications.

I hate having to use a bluetooth earpiece but the Plantronics Voyager 520 I picked up from Fry's yesterday seems better than any of the others I have bought and returned or given to my wife. It was also the only one I noticed that stays linked to two cell phones which is good for me since I have to carry a company phone in addition to my personal phone. It has a wind screen over the microphone and the box says it has noise cancelling circuitry which seems to work pretty well. The couple people I've talked to said it sounded good, unlike the other bluetooths I've had.
I'm still tempted to wire a plug adapter so I can use my flight headset (like in photo way above) that has built-in anti-noise reduction which would be awesome to use with my cellphone in the TJ. |

Hello Erik,
that's what I currently have in my lease car and it works awesome. The installation was done by a company that's specialized in car audio etc. That way there's minimal impact on the interior and no wires and **** running everywhere. For traveling abroad I take a Plantronics Explorer 340 with me and it also works for me

I got the Jawbone II. Seems to be working, but of-course I'll need time to evaluate. Some folks seem to complain about fit, I put the smallest ear cushion and largest ear loop from the included assortment, and those seems to work ok for me, but I wonder if I can make it fit better with a $10 Jabra EarGels kit somebody else suggested. I am going to give that a try.

I am still struggling with the fit of the Jawbone II. The sensor on the end of the unit is supposed to stay in contact with the face. The Jabra EarGels make the wear somewhat more comfortable, but they space the unit farther away. The only other recommendation I've seen was to go and get a custom molded earpiece, but that service is like $75.
Overall this is a very unforgiving piece of equipment. If everything is perfect then it works great; but making it stay glued to your face and to your ear at the same time, and comfortable at that, is challenging. |
