Full circle clips?
Can someone educate me on full circle clips? I spit another u-joint cap out is weekend, and I'd like to figure out a solution to the problem. Which came first... the cap leaving, or the stub shaft hole deforming? If it's the stub shaft, are Warn axles the best solution? BTW, I'm running an XJ HP 30.
Thanks! |

If your axle shafts are stock, full circle clips will only slow the problem down. Warn axles will eliminate most of it.

Is this due to the stock shafts deforming, or is it the clips? Does warn sell stub shafts seperately, or is the hub conversion the only way to get them? Are warn shafts the best way to go vs. others (superior, etc.)?

The whole issue is that the stock axles are soft and not heat treated - this allows the yoke ears to deform under load which causes the cap to get spit.
Get Superiors if you don't want to run the hubs but you are not going to save much money on them - they are priced similar to the Warn kit. You will also want inners to go with the outters or else you are just moving the problem to another part. |

Thanks, Robert. It ollks like I'll end up with the warn inners and 4.5 hub kit.

Not a bad way to go - there is a whole lot of hard use on that kit with 35's by folks on this board to back it up too.

Can someone break down the costs of the warn 5 on 4.5 kit with alloy inners v's just using inner and out er superiors.
I believe the warn kit is around $900 then you need to buy inners as well. No idea on superiors. cheers zach

After shopping around, the best pricing I found on Warn's hub kit and inner shafts was from Bob Supplee, contact info below.

I got the 5x4.5 Warn HCK + Warn inners about 2 months ago before the price increase. Cost to my door was ~$1,040.
Along with the Warn items, you'll want the Premium rotors & some good pads too. Plus you'll need to machine the rotors inner diameter to fit the Warn hubs & press the wheelstuds into the rotors. I had a few other misc items I was doing at the same time since mine was going into a YJ HPD30. Things like moving the axle seal to the carrier instead of the vacuum disco area, & also eliminating the vacuum disco. Here's a link to some pics & things when we did it. http://www.jeepbbs.net/forums/showth...&threadid=7343 |

Zach,
This is something I'm currently into - but torn between polishing the D30 or just replacing (as you've no doubt seen elsewhere). I sorta think $900-$1000 (more if you consider the evolution shafts) is a lot to still have the D30 with 36"+ tyres - the next weakest thing is going to be that expensive R&P.... But if you are keen give us a yell I might be able to help with the shipping - eg you just missed a pallate this morning |

Still looking into the idea of nissan diffs as well Hmmm, I like the idea of getting some shipping off you. Think you could fit a Dana 300 onto one of those pallets?

Also the amount of jeeps sold and on the road is tiny compared to you guys. Therefore the amount of jeeps in junkyards is tiny compared to you guys, Then add that to the fact other 4wds like broncoes, F trucks, etc, are in the same boat and the junkyards are devoid of there parts as well Then add the cost of shipping anything all the way around the world. As you can see there are simple reasons for the cost and lack of parts down here. I still would't own anything but a jeep though. I might put some nissan diffs under it one day though

Zach,
I think that could be arranged Quote:
Not just shipping costs, but duties, Goods & services tax (which also gets dumped onto the shipping costs), customs handling fees (for them just looking at it).....and lastly the exchange rate pillage |

They are located in Bayswater, Western Austrailia. www.4wdusa.com.au Ask for Eddie. Tell him John from All 4 Wheel Drive in California sent you. I have known Eddie for about 15 years. He comes to the US usually once a year, loads up containers with new and used Jeep stuff and ships them back home. I have never seen his place, but judging from the amount of stuff I have seen him buy he should be stocked up pretty well.

I know follks that do this, but the yokes just seem too small for me to feel comfortable about this, not to mention the soft factor. To keep the caps in a stock shaft, I prefer 4 little tack welds, welding the cap to the shaft. I've gotten good mileage out of this, as have many others. Tacking the caps is like taking seating the u-joing caps to the next level , and they're not going to walk at all- which is a contributor to failed caps/joints. (D@mn those upgrade kits are expen$ive!!!)

I'm going to try welding the caps to the shafts until I can afford the hub kit and inners. Then again, maybe a HP d44 is an option since the housing won't flex as much as my 30. I think my ARB is coming apart again....

I hurt my shoulder on the last one, getting the old joint out. Breaker bar & 30" cheater (I'll never say High-Lift Jacks don't have their uses -- at least PARTS of them, anyway ) and a Harbor Freight U-joint tool. Gotta love road salt in the winter.... |
