I normally pay $11 or $12 to fill a 10-pound tank. Of course, it averages out less because the shop I use doesn't charge me every time - I normally get one refill out of three or four for free.

I think I paid $14.00 for my 10 pounder to be filled. I could get it a few bucks cheaper, but it isn't worth the drive. It's worth every penny to me.

This is the guy to talk to - Darren Bradley at Spectrum Gas in Costa Mesa. 714-444-0477

Friend of the board - knows Blaine - super nice guy. I bought my system from him and get my tank filled there. I can't remember the price, but it's fair and you are doing business with a class act.

$18 at the local fire extinguisher shop.

Eric, if you can get them for $14, I'll let you take my bottle over to the store!

Stu;
Actually; I think I found a place that will fill them for $11.00. They are right by my wifes work. I'll let you know.

Called Spectrum Gas, they told me $10...

SO I guess I will going there tomorrow..

Thanks everyone I hope the Co2 system lives up to its expectations.

I have a Fast onboard air compressor (extreme outback extremeair), that is running my ARB right now so it wasnt too bad as far as airing up tires, it puts out 4 cfm, but I suspect this will be a little quicker..

Bought my system from him also. I had a couple questions he couldn't answer right away, but he called back at the stated time with the info. Very professional.

Just a little far for me to go for tank filling

Can't find a local place for filling. At least not yet. Found one so far, but out town; a one hour drive each way seems a bit excessive.

Still looking at two promising leads.

Have you tried beverage outlets? Also; there are stores here that cater to the home brewer that will refill Co2 bottles. Alot of welding supply shops will do it but they will just exchange your tank.

Eric,

Let me know what you find out in regards to the location near your wife's work place. (don't tell me she works in Chandler!) LOL

I use to use the welding supply store in Glendale. I liked them as they would fill my tank while I waited and their prices were no worse than anyone else. However, after they overfilled my tank and the pressure relief did its job, I stopped going there after I went back and got a refund.

What costs are involved in a CO2 tank for airing up, running tools, etc?

Do you mean the cost of the full setup or an estimated cost of operation? I found a 10# setup locally for $140.00. Coiled hose is extra. I might fill my tank every couple of months. If i'm wheeling near a populated area; I just drive to a gas station to air up.

Allen;
Contact your local fire and safety equipment house. They can often recondition used tanks and throw on a new regulator. I just bought a new regulator with tank pressure guage for $35.00.
A good urethane coiled hose with 180psi rating from Sears is $25.00. To run air tools; you'll need a 90# regulator that taps into your existing 150# regulator. Harbor Freight carries these cheap. I would venture to say that you can do it all for the same price or less of a Quickair 2.

$17 for 10 pounds this spring; included new MSDS sticker on the tank with the vendors 800 number too!

I just love coiled hoses, if you have a coiled hose that is 3' long, that's how far from the tank you can get until the hose pulls it over. Especially after you run some nice warm Co2 through it.

Darren has the ultimate hose for Co2, 600 lbs working pressure and 2400 burst while being extremely flexible. No quick disconnects to foul with dirt, uses 45 degree flare refrigeration disconnects.

Not if the tank is properly mounted in the tub. I just pull my hose around to all 4 tires and fill.

Hows that work, when you've carried your tank (a 5lb tank in my case), 50 yards down the trail to help another member re-seat a bead

Coiled hoses are about as useful as **** on quail

I don't really hate coiled hoses, they just frustate me with their intended purpose and if you ever use one of Darren's hoses, you will wonder why you ever owned a coil hose.

It would seem pretty silly to carry the tank 50 yards down the trail and then stop 10' away from tire that you plan to reseat the bead on, just to see if your coiled hose would pull the tank over.

True, but I have set the tank down at the back of the rig while the tire was being worked on and had someone reach over, grab the coily hose and pull the tank over in the process.

Doesn't hurt the non adjustable regulators, but those guys with the fancy dials and gauges get pretty cranky when you break one.

I was thinking the same thing.

Come on; Fred!!! You have your Harbor Freight impact and I have my coiled hose!

Blaine;
What is this "wonder hose" and how much. I use the coiled hose because it stores away easily for the most part. I'm always open to new suggestions.

Eric,

Remind me the next time I see you and I'll show you what it looks like. I use one on my CO2 tank.

Heah....did you get any info about the place near your wife's work?

Hmmm.....I was under the impression that those fancy dials and gauges were there to get broken off. They aren't? They sure as hell don't serve any purpose unless you are setting up the adjustable regulator to run the ARBs.

Nah; not yet Stu. I've been nursing my son after having four wisdom teeth pulled. Are you needing a refill? By the way; Stu....
If you switch to synthetic winch line in the future; Roadrunner has condemned fire hose which makes a perfect sleeve to prevent rock rash on rope.

Back in the day; I could carry a full keg down a hill 50 yds., break out the tap and then i'd fall over! Now we're concerned about a 10# bottle tipping over while filling a tire. Man; what a bunch of old timers!!!

No, I'm OK on the CO2 tank. The QA2 is bolted into the back and is always available. I was just wondering if you had gotten any more info.

Yep. Can't say I've quit yet, but I've pretty much exhausted all phone numbers in three phone books. Looked at fire extinguisher service shops, beverage outlets, welding shops, etc.

Only two local (within 30 miles) places will fill without sending it out. One is a welding shop, drop it off and get it back about a week later. $12.50 for a 5lb bottle. The other is a fill-while-you-wait. $18 for the same bottle.

Still digging around...
