rear Currie HP 9 3'rd member leaking..
I have taken some hits on the studs to the third member. Mainly the lowest stud. It isnt bent as far as I can see (ground down a bit). It is leaking a very little bit. I alredy tried to tighten it down but it still leaks. I guess I will have to replace the copper washer and maybe the stud. Is this about right?
After getting this axle this was the one area that seemed vulnerable to me. I cant think of a way to protect the third member studs. Is this something that I just have to deal with on a drop out 3rd? Scott |

On mine it's aluminum sealing washers:
.063" Thickness, 3/8" ID, 5/8" OD I am sure copper works too. Just in case, the size of the deformed thread automation (conical) top locknuts [Stover Nuts] is 3/8-24. Good luck, these studs is a constant source of pain. There is a skid plate idea here: http://www.jeepbbs.net/forums/showth...&threadid=5796 |

The washers I have are what Currie put on. They look like copper. Where is a good place to pick up spare studs, Stover Nuts, and washers? I asked Currie one time and they told me to hit an auto parts store. RE: skid plate idea Thats one way to protect them.... Some day i'll have to fab something up. In the mean time I guess I'll deal with replacing studs and washers. |
