14 Bolt leaky pinion seal

Noticed today the FF 14 bolt under the rear of my dually is leaking diff fluid. Looks like the pinion seal is going out.

Is this a DIY type fix, or will it mess up the R&P setup?

If it's a DIY type job, any tib-bits of info? Do I need to pull the mounting flange behind the yoke, or just drop the driveshaft and pull the yoke.

Nope, he looked at it, looked at the mess and traded it in.

Tempting thought, but no.

I had some motivation to hurry up: rain.

Skies were clearing after lunch and thought I would tackle it. Got the parts, got under the truck in the driveway, began tearing it apart, and it starting pouring...I'm talking sideways rain. By the time I finished the project and added fluid, I was soaked.

Picture my wife, standing next to the side of the truck that my legs were sticking out from under, holding the jeep unbrella that our friends from So Cal gave us, trying to keep some of the rain at bay. The wind was so strong it ripped the umbrella from her hands more than once.

It rained for an hour and a half up here this afternoon, and the was the hour and a half I was under the truck. Figures...

Took a 3/4" drive set with a 24" handled rachet and a 3' piece of pipe over the rachet to the get the pinion nut loose. Yeah, it was a little tight.
