small/mid size pickup for occasional towing

I've got a 06 Nissan Frontier. I didn't buy it for towing, but I was wondering if I'd be able to occasionally trailer my Jeep if needed. And what I'd want to upgrade on the truck to handle towing duties.

Here are some specs on the Frontier:
HP - 265
Torque - 284@4000
Max Towing Capacity - 6300

It's a 6-speed manual.

I think you would be better off flat towing if its just occasional/short distances.

A trailer is probably 2000lbs or more, your Jeep is at least 4000. Your pushing the limits of that Nissan.

If your set on doing it, look into helper springs and definately run trailer brakes.

I don't know much about a frontier , but I would read the fine print behind the tow ratings.

for example, my wife's 99 4rnr is rated to tow 5K lbs, but requires brakes over 2K.

Yeah I work for a Nissan dealership and have to agree that trailering a TJ would be pushing your Frontier's tow capacity. Especially so with that six speed transmission since they make a much better tow vehicle when equipped with an automatic.

I have an '02 Tacoma with auto that is similar sized/rated, maybe a llittle less. I flat tow my heavy CJ5 with it, and it would be too much if it was on a trailer. It has the power for most things, but the braking is really affected with the CJ behind me.
Keep in mind if you flat tow, many states reguire some sort of brake system for the towed vehicle; and they don't come cheap.
I put some Firestone Air Bags on my Taco, and love them. I can support any load I desire with a simple application of air at the bumper. Around $250 I think, and a couple hours of install time.

Well, I am nopt planning on towing as I like to drive my Jeep to the trails. Just like to have to ability to do so if I absolutely need it. Both Regular and Max towing numbers are the same - 6300.
