Talking Help Me Out

It's been a long day.

Make tomorrow's shopping list easy for me.

I need to know what guage wire to connect my compressor to my 220 hookup in the garage.

220v @ 15a

I need about a 5 foot lead. Should I get that metal shrouded casing with the wires already inside?

Also, I need a regulator. My last compressor was oilless. Do I need an air/oil seperator? I do not plan on painting.....yet.

Anything else I need? I'm temporarily leaving the compressor on the pallet for easier handling when we move.

Thanks.

I'm off to bed.

Hopefully my list is ready for me when I wake up tonight or in the morning.

Allen

Try this calculator:

http://www.altronix.com/html/calc.htm

The National Electrical Code states that a voltage drop of 5% at the furthest receptacle in a branch wiring circuit is acceptable for normal efficiency.

So if we take 5-ft, as the total lenght of the cirquit, you need at least 28-gauge wire. But bigger is better, I'd probably use at least #14...

Just for reference. You have to factor length in the calculation.

700 ft of #12 on a 240 Volts single-phase circuit at 20 Amps would cause more than 55 Volts drop, which is unacceptable.

It should work fine for 5 ft, though, I agree.

For your short run, get some 12-4 SJOOW (300V) or SOOW (600V) cable and wire it up.

15A circuits can be run with 14ga wire, but I prefer to use 12ga (good up to 20A).

30A circuits get 10ga wire.
