If you think one is big: then picture 2 of those in the back of my WJ!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've got 2 Great Danes: one blue, one grey. Tiny (how appropriate) and Calvin. The most gentle, friendly and beautiful of dogs... but then again, I'm biased! I only have a picture of one in the back of my Jeep in the last camping trip. The first two pics on the page, click for a larger version:

http://homepage.mac.com/emdub/Albuns/PhotoAlbum39.html

and her's one of them each as puppies 2 yrs. ago: (not sure if this is gonna work)

Nah, we figure its no worse than having an average size passenger riding along with us. Those RE springs are stiffer than some but it does feel a little heavy in the tail with everything packed, a cooler in the rack, and the dog in the back. I don't carry an excessive amount of tools and equipment along with me anyways but with the big dog, weight considerations are an issue for us so I try to only pack the bare essentials. I've been told by my wife that the dog is not optional when it comes to camping/jeeping trips!

As for the eating thing, Mason can put away his fair share of chow. He meticulously consumes 10-12 cups of premium Eagle Pack brand dog food per day. His eating habits are a bit interesting though. He really likes to eat when we do. When we sit down at the table to eat breakfast, he runs over and eats breakfast too. Same for dinner! Danes' have very cool personalities and are very much individuals, almost human-like in many ways. They are surprisingly sensitive. Mason is very much a part of our family and I know that we will always be Great Dane people.

emdub,

They are beautiful puppies aren't they! It's interesting, our Mason had really blue/gray eyes as a puppy and then over the past year or so, they've gradually turned almost gold colored. When Mason was young (and much smaller) we too though about getting a second Great Dane. Then as Mason started to grow (which didn't take long) we knew that our current arsenal of vehicles could never accomodate more than one at a time. I will say that our next Dane will have the natural ears. Mason is my first Dane but I've learned that I'm not a fan of this ear cropping business.

Great Danes

I had a female Dane before I got these 2. I clipped her ears at the time and although she did look beautiful I decided it wasn't worth what she had to go through. She died at age 2 because of a stomach torsion which these dogs are very prone too... it took me a year to recover and another year to find the perfect companion, but then my father decided he wanted one too... and now I got 2!!!

Although they grew up together it is impressive to see how different their personalities are. One doesn't like other dogs, the other one loves playing with them. One eats a lot the other just likes protecting his food and eats much less. One of them is always behind us like a shadow, the other perfers too keep a little distance... it really is amazing what a distinct personality they have.

Amazing is also the care these giants have with children... when I play with them we have noisy fights and I fall to the ground, they fall with me, they jump on me etc, but when a child (my 4 yr. old nephew for example) plays with them they are really gentle and careful! It's interesting to watch...

Anyway... I'm a great dane person too. Can't picture myself without them. I gotta send in a pic of both the boys grown up...

This is Angel.....kind of our new Jeep dog. I say kind of because she belongs to our 3rd oldest kid....but she spends her days at our place while he is at work. She is about 8~9 weeks. She reminds me of "Petey", the dog from "Our Gang".

This is Syra. Angel was kind of lonely so we picked her up a playmate. So far, she likes the Jeep (and Donna's curly hair!)

This is Ticket, she is an Aussie Shepard/Rockkrawler

She was rescued by the Aussie Shepard Rescue Society. Some Asshole just dumped her in the Desert to die when he/she found out she was pregnant. She had her puppies in the shelter and they too were adopted.

She is the best dog any person could ever have, and she loves Jeeping. How someone could throw her away is unfathomable to me. Their loss, my gain. Now if I could just get someone to throw out a flat skid I would be all set

This is Pyro the dachsund, Ditto the cat, and Fuji the cockatiel.

They all get along well. Pyro and Ditto will wrestle and chase each other around the house. They grew up together from a very young age. I guess they never realized they were supposed to hate each other.

Here are two of our cats

This one is the 2nd youngest, Kick-A-Poo.

He's been trained to play fetch with a toy mouse and bring it back and wait for it to be thrown again.

Until our youngest came into the home, he'd follow everyone around, now he chills out a lot in one or two spots around the house.

Here's our youngest and the one that owns my heart, T.C.

She's my "Jeepin Cat". She's getting harness/leashed trained, can fetch, talks when spoken too, loves the Jeep, follows me around the house like a lost puppy dog, and loves road trips.

Syra on her 3rd Jeep trip

Well, Syra has made it to 5+ months old and is getting the hang of the Jeepin' stuff just fine.

Here she is from yesterday's trip....we were doing a stand on the floorboard down hill section when my wife snapped this picture. She handled it all in stride and it barely caused her to open an eye (yes, she is just about asleep here).

Thought I'd post of pic of our Jeep Dog: Blackie

This is on Deer Creek Trail in early August, '03. She's loves to run and probably covers more miles than the Jeep does.

Darrell,

You have to take .orig.jpg off of the end of your link to make it work right. Here's your pic:

Jeff,

Thanks for the info. The pic worked right after I posted it, but now doesn't. Oh well. I appreciate you getting the pic of my pooch up.

Since it's past 30 min, I can't edit it. Maybe the Admin or a Mod can clean it up for me Or just delete it since Jeff posted it.

Maybe I'll try again.

Trying my hand at this again.

Another pic of Blackie.

Tired after a long day of running the Rubicon. Ready to hit the sack if somebody would let her into the tent.
