I may not be for the war, but I can appreciate the effort veterans have put in and the danger they've put themselves in for the safety of our country.

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the courts, who has given us the right to keep and bear arms

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician, who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN, who salutes the Flag, and serves under the flag.

To all VETERAN's past and present, I salute you and honor your service.

You'll love this. Over here the day is called "Armistice Day". On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month everything in the country stops for 2 minutes silence while we remember the people who have died in the 2 world wars, and the conflicts since then.

Well, story going round is that some people here in the UK want to cancel Armistice Day as they feel that its time to be done remembering the war dead, and move on.

WTF?!?!? Imagine if it was proposed to abolish Memorial Day or Veterans Day! You'd have a second civil war! I just don't get some people.

Subject: Home Depot Offers Military Discount as Veterans Day Salute

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Nov. 10, 2004 -- Active duty, reserve and retired U.S.
military personnel and their family members will receive 10 percent off
their purchases in recognition of Veterans Day at The Home Depot, the
world's largest home improvement retailer, company officials announced
today.

The offer is good on purchases up to $2,000 for a maximum discount of
$200 Nov.
11-14, and applies to Home Depot, Home Depot Floor and Home Depot
Landscape Supply stores.

"This discount is a gesture of thanks, during this time of remembrance,
to all of those who have sacrificed for our nation, in keeping with The
Home Depot's ongoing commitment to the entire U.S. military community,"
said Bob Nardelli, the company's chairman, president and chief executive
officer.

To qualify, individuals must present a valid military identification
card to the special services desk at any Home Depot store, where they
will receive a coupon redeemable at any cashier's checkout register.
Discount coupons are for single transactions only.

The discount offer furthers the company's demonstrated overall
commitment to supporting the military community. In 2003, the company
launched Project Homefront, through which Home Depot donated $1 million
and 1 million volunteer hours to help military families at home while
their spouses were deployed.

Last July, the company made another $1 million donation in tools and
supplies to support our troops in the rebuilding effort in Iraq.

Most recently, in September, the company launched Operation Career
Front, a joint program with the U.S. departments of defense, labor and
veterans affairs designed to provide career opportunities to separating
and retiring military servicemembers, military spouses and other
veterans.

The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, in
conjunction with the secretary of defense, honored Home Depot in
September with the 2004 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom
Award. The company also has been selected as No. 1 on GI Jobs magazine's
list of the Top 25 Most Military Friendly Employers for 2004.

Founded in 1978, Home Depot is the world's largest home improvement
specialty retailer and the second largest retailer in the United States,
with fiscal 2003 sales of $64.8 billion. The company employs about
300,000 people and has 1,826 stores in 50 states, the District of
Columbia, Puerto Rico, eight Canadian provinces and Mexico.
