Same size tires, both P235's. When I did a all fluid change in the Jeep, the T-case oil was BLACK!!! It seemed like it was filled up, though. How can I do a gear ratio check?

make sure to put clean atf+3 in the t-case no oil in the new ones only gear oil in the dana cases like 18 and 20

if all the way black it was eitheir not atf or severly contaminated. what did it smell like??

gear ratio check with open difs is raise 1 tire turn it 1 rotation count drive shaft turns and timesdrive shaft rotation by 2

or drive with head under jeep nd you wont have ti spin by hand just pay the medical bills

Scott

PS any locker you need to lift both tires.

Here it goes: I jacked up one side of the front wheels, and spun the tire. D/s didnt spin! Hmm. D'oh! Posi-lok wasnt engaged. Engaged posi-lok, and the t-case (4low).

So I tried to turn the wheel again. The D/S moved the first 3" I turn the tire, then it never moved. If I switched directions of the turing of the tire, it would spin for about 4" again then quit, no matter how many times I spun the wheel. So, it HAS to be the T-case. What in the t-case makes the front driveshaft spin????

You want the t-case in 2H or neutral. If the t-case is in 4, you are trying to turn the engine with the tire, as the tire is connected to the engine with everything engaged. Just engage the posilock.

Understand that, but, umm, with the posi-lok engaged and the t-case in 4 low, the driveshaft should have spun reguardless, no?

put a chalk mark on the DS and see how much it moves. if you cant spin the tire take the case cover off and see what is going on inside or try the short side.

as far as the drive shaft turning yes it can turn in 4 low up to 1/3 of a tire spin depending on diff type.
