winch works, Jeep runs, combo = NO GO
Hello all,
for all those who attended the KOH, I hope you had a great time and hopefully I'll be able to join in on one of the future runs (a once-a-year Hammers fix, even though for a full week, is clearly not enough ) As for the tech question: one of my buddies has CJ5 where he's got the following problem: Jeep by itself runs fine, hit the winch button it instantly dies Use the winch on a separate battery, it works just fine What could be the problem? (no bust fuses or anything, we checked the cables and such) Thanks for your help, greetz Ron from sunny and windy Texas

Sounds like the battery is probably nearly dead. The winch may be putting enough added load on the battery that the alternator stops working. The alternator only puts out power when the battery is providing its required 12 volt "tickler" voltage.
