Question Rear Brakes on Currie Axles

Does anyone know what type of brakes Curries uses on the axles they manufacture? I have rear drums on a 9" high pinion if that helps. I'm pretty sure they are 11" off a ford SUV, but I would like to be able to go to a parts store and ask for them specifically by vehicle type and year.

Thanks

If you're referring to the disc brakes they use, they use Explorer brakes. When I bought replacement pads for mine, I requested them for a '98 Explorer.

Well, since you said you hav drums, I'll guess that they're probably not Explorer, though early Explorer's had drums. My dad's HP 9" has brakes about that size from an Econoline Van. Short of any other solution, pull a brake pad, bring it to parts store and ask for mid '70's Econoline van brakes and see if they match up.

Have you tried calling Currie?

Good luck!

Now that the BS has started I'll chime in with what I thought I heard - that Currie was using Ford "Torino" style 11" drums.

Thanks for the replies so far... I have not called Currie yet, my schedule has been quite hectic. Ford Torinos and Econoline vans, who would have thought?

You can oreder different kinds of drums. If I am not grossly mistaken, the 11" ones are from Ford Aerostar. But do not take my word on it.

The rear drum set-up on Currie 9" rear axles are from a 96 and up Ford F-150 pickup if it has the big bearing Torino housing ends.

The work order from Currie says, "End Type: Torino/LB" So I should be good to go with the F-150 brake shoes. Thanks for the help...

This is a question I have pondered as well. Except my rear-end is not from Currie, it was built by Tri-County. It's a 60 with Ford 11x2.5" brakes. Could they be the same Torino brakes? For some reason I recalling them telling me, they were the same as an early '80s F-150. Who knows?

Lesson I have learned: keep close tabs on all the part numbers of custom stuff. I learned that after trying to get a new seal for my Currie SYE.

The 96 and up F-150 drums use an 11x2.25 inch shoe.
