What is the Superstition Mountain event like?
My wife is going with me on next weekend's Superstition Mountain offroad event by El Centro, which will be only her second time offroad. Her first and last time was 7 years ago. Another couple is going with us in their lifted TJ and they're kind of new to Jeeping and offroading... so between my wife and them, I don't want them screaming for their lives (or at me) if I choose the wrong run.
What's it like at Superstition Mountain? Any trail descriptions and/or recommendations would be great. Thanks! |

I couldn't tell you Jerry, but if you see a dark blue YJ on coilovers, that will be my dad behind the wheel. Have fun.

It's a fun event, Jerry.
The terrain is a mix of sand and rocks. In all honesty, if you want Hammer's type action - go to JV. If you like sand - Superstition is better than JV (imho). If you really like sand - got to Glamis or Gordon's Well. The trails used to be rated green, red & black. I think they have changed the trail rating to the number system of 1 to 5 this year. I am a member (not a very good one) of SD4W. I'm of the opinion that there is not a 5 trail out there - 4 would be about max. However - there is a lot of potential. It's an open area. Anyway.... to answer your question: I would suggest Black Cat. It's a mix of hogbacks, a rock garden, a little canyon crawling and of coarse... some sand. Pretty good raffle. |

Thanks a bunch Robert, Black Cat sounds good. That combination you described reads like it's probably exactly the right kind of trail my small group would enjoy.
