not a good idea...

After cross threading one of my rear anti-sway bar bolts I decided to go to the hardware store and replace it with a study grade 8 bolt. Halfway through Last Chance today I heard a nice pop and noticed a lot of banging afterwards... snaped it like a twig.

Any recomendations other than getting the same bolt from a Jeep dealer.

Thanks, Brian.

The only way you can break that bolt is if you smack the end of the link on a rock at the right angle and then I have seen the link bend before the bolt breaks.

I have some of those bolts if you want to try another stock one. Several if I recall correctly.

let me clarify... I screwed the original bolt up and tryed a grade 8 which broke. I would love another stock bolt... if you've got one let me know your address and I'll send you whatever it's worth to you.

Brian.

I understood you perfectly.

That bolt ain't worth crap to me.

It's a bit more valuable to you though. PM me your address and remind me on a regular basis and I will get one shipped out to you, two if I can dig them out of the bucket.

You've already shown a propensity for screwing them up, so I should look for two.

The ones on mine are metric class 10.9 -- the metric equivalent of gr. 8

Are you sure that it did not vibrate loose and end up coming out rather than breaking off?

I went through about 3- sets of regular bolts and lockwashers on my swaybars before I broke down and used a real Stover bolt / nut on the 1/2" bolt I put in there. Every one would go *Plink Clank* and then disappear into the abyss leaving me swaying in the breeze with no nuts or bolts on the swaybar.

Best regards

John

I suppose it could have loosened up and fell out. When I got under it to check the noise there was nothing there. Who knows I should have an oem bolt back in there sometime in the near future. Brian.
