They are now evacuating Scripps Ranch. It?s on the other side of the Miramar Base from where I am. No definite information on where the fire is though. There was a report of a house lost on Sagewood Dr in Poway.

I live in Ramona and we evacuated at 9:30 last night to a friends in Poway, we evacuated from there at 6:00am this morning and are camped out at work in Kearny Mesa.

We went through the Cedar fire before and did NOT hesitate to leave last night, it looks like this is going to be worse than the Cedar fire.

Stay safe,
Roger

Erik, I got your call on my cell phone - but regretfully I get very poor coverage while I'm in my office. I'll touch base with you later today. Currently, we're okay, but that could change quickly.

Sergey, you know where I live. You & your family are MORE than welcome to stay at my place if the need arises. As far as I know - we are okay & I haven't recieved notice of immediate danger.

William could be effected too, so I plan to give him a call shortly.

I spoke with my neighbor - they've evacuated portions of Portola Hills and Foothill Ranch which is a couple miles down the road from me. I don't think it can work it's way to my house, but we do live on a canyon with a park in it - that is the only way it would reach us UNLESS it burned a couple thousand homes first.

I'm going to get our stuff "readyish" tonight...

Let's see:

Guns - check
Ammo - check
Beer - check
iPod - check
computer - check
pictures - check
drum set - check
kids, wife and dog - check

Okay - I'm packed!

Jeff

KFMB radio reported 60 homes in the San Diego suburb of Rancho Bernardo had burned.
As of 10:30 a.m., county authorities had called for mandatory evacuations of Rancho Santa Fe as well as the Olivenhain Dam area. Mandatory evacuations were also ordered for Lakeside at 13100 Willow Road. County officials advised residents to call 2-1-1 for nonemergency calls related to the fire. Fire information was also available online at www.211SanDiego.org.

Scripps Ranch added to mandatory evacuations, following Fallbrook in the north and Valley Center in the east. Solana Beach residents are advised to be prepared to evacuate. A voluntary evacuation order is issued for eastern portions of Chula Vista. Evacuation boundaries are east of Mt. Miguel Road, north of Proctor Valley Road, east of Hunte Parkway and north of Otay Lakes Road. Firefighters became concerned about the path of the fire when it jumped Otay Lakes Road at Thousand Trails Park, according to a city news release issued shortly before 2 p.m.

Poway homes in flames (2:53 p.m.)
At least four multi-million dollar homes in the exclusive Bridlewood gated neighborhood near Lake Poway were burning just before 3 p.m. Many homes sit in the fire's path as it burns toward Espola Road. Poway High School is a half mile south of where the fire is burning now.

Military personnel will be providing escorts of small groups of vehicles through Camp Pendleton from Ammunition Road in Fallbrook. All traffic will be diverted to the front gate to access northbound I-5 at Harbor Drive. No vehicles will be allowed to access southbound I-5 towards San Diego County from the base. Citizens must access the base through the Ammunition Road Gate which is accessible from Mission Road in Fallbrook.

I hope everyone is ok.

Were settling in at the inlaws I havent heard any news about our house, but my fax machine still answers (answering machine does not)

Reports of fires all around us. Jerry's street, Hamilton, was just on the news as well as houses lost on Lomas Serenas which is right next to us on Lake Hodges.

So far no news on Lake Drive (Del Dios) which is my street. No news is good news, right? Just wish I had time this morning to hook up the Jeep, but got all the family and pictures...

Matt

They?ve started to evacuate Miramar. I have a pile of boxes by the door ready to be loaded in the vehicles. I don?t need any help; we have five people in the house.

Praying for everyone. And Matt we all saw your $250,000 competition rig that you routinely brought out to JV and lost in the fire....

Come to think of it - I think my diesel motorhome was parked by your house as well...

In all seriousness I really hope no one has their property destroyed or damaged.

Sitting here at the Long Beach airport on a small break before we leave again at 6pm and the smoke down here is pretty thick and the wind is strong. We didn't even break through the smoke till about 300 feet off the ground.

We flew over the area last night and we saw 4 distinctive fire lines, one of which had jumped into the town limits near a highway.

It's such a mess.

I know I haven't been around much but I hope y'all are doing ok and if anyone needs anything let me know.

Matt, Jerry, all, I wish you the best. Good to hear you guys are okay.

Update:

I can see the fires (mostly smoke) from around the corner of my home. It's at a distance, but things are known to develop fast. Proctor Valley Rd, and Otay Lakes Road are not far away.

The winds are calm at work (South Point Loma) but they sure pick up quickly as you approach ~1 mile from my home. Wind gusts are ~20-30mph.

These pics are looking towards Proctor Valley Rd & Otay Lakes Rd a little south of where we live in Rancho San Diego.

If this fire turns towards us, these homes right behind me, will be in serious jeopardy if it makes it's way up the hill.

I just got home and driving on the 118 was no fun at all. The sky turned black from the smoke from the Stevenson Ranch and Santa Clarita fires, it was hard to breathe, my eyes were stinging, and my truck was being slapped around by the major wind gusts. What a mess.

I passed a couple convoys of Fire trucks from various cities. Help is on the way, hope everyone is safe.

I think you're right Sergey. I could see a few aircraft flying around the Proctor Valley/Otay Lakes area.

The night sky is reddish & bright in the fire areas.

They are now talking about areas north of the Sorrento Valley Rd under evacuation (South of Del Dios Highway, North of Sorrento Valley Road, West of Black Mountain Road to the ocean). My office is on Roselle St, right by the Sorrento Valley Rd, technically on the south side of it.

I am trying to figure out if I should go to the office to retrieve computers.

Brian, are you choking on smoke up there in Stevenson Ranch? I think the fire was moving away from your place, but I'm sure it got interesting nonetheless.

I talked to him a while back and he was still at work. From what I know, the fire is going away from SR, but he has my number just in case it turns around.

We're back at home after having spent the day & early evening with friends where it turns out their neighborhood was officially named an evacuation zone too. Where we live is still officially an evacuation zone but the fire is at least a mile away and not coming towards us so some have returned back to our home. It's still very smoky here though and the air is bad enough to burn your eyes but inside the house it's ok.

Thanks for the kind offers and calls offering support, we were very lucky but not so for way too many who lost their homes very close to where we live. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them. Meanwhile, I'm going to try to stay awake and alert just in case the wind shifts. Again, thank you all for your offers of help and even lodging if we needed it.

That's good news Jerry. Glad to here your place is okay.

A guy from over on JF returned to his home in Rancho Bernardo & was watching friends' homes go up in smoke.

I just took a short drive uphill to get a better view of the Proctor Valley/Otay Lakes area. It doesn't look good at all for those folks. A neighbor mentioned watching their friends home burn to the ground earlier today.

The shopping center near us here in Rancho San Diego is PACKED with RV's, campers, horse trailers, boats on trailers, tents etc. I guess you gotta seek refuge wherever you can when things turn ugly quick. The word is for folks to try using large shopping center parking lots. There's lots of security folks there & things seem to be orderly.

I'm sure hopeing Matts place is okay.

Jerry - I'm very happy your place is okay now - that is a relief. Now lets hope that Scott, Matt, Joe and Sergey fair as well.

We just took a quick drive - Whiting Ranch seems to be burning pretty well. Still a few miles away and a lot of houses but you never know with these crazy winds.

Saddleback Church, which is right down the street, is the staging area of all the fire equipment.

So riddle me this:

Malibu Fire - approx 1500+ acres burned and roughly 500 homes at risk = 1700 fire fighters, 2 helicopters, and 2 fire planes.

Santiago Fire - approx 15000+ burned acres and 2000 homes at risk = 500 fire fighters and no air support. News said it was "too windy" which I can't understand since it's been "too windy" in all of So Cal.

Eat the rich....

Things seem under control here. Thanks all for your concern, I truly appreciate it.

New fire off the 14, at least 10 miles from existing fires... who's starting these things!!!

Good luck to everyone effected, my thoughts are with you.

Blaine,

Thank you so much for the call yesterday that really meant a lot.

Well we are at my father-in-laws house in Riverside now and everyone is safe I just saw reports that fire was in my neighborhood but so far the maps of the fire do not include my house but it does not look good.

please keep all the fire firefighters in your prayers and keep praying that everyone made it out safe things can be replaced but families can not.

Say safe everyone and keep the ones you love close to you if there is any fire in your area the winds don't look like they will be to friendly today.

I will update everyone when I know anything else,

Scott

PS look Blaine the spelling is OK

I've wondered the same thing Jeff. BTW, would I be a bad person for not being devastated if Tori Spelling's B&B in Fallbrook burned?

Quote:
The raging wildfires in Southern California are threatening thousands of homes: among them, Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott's newly renovated bed and breakfast, Chateau La Rue, in Fallbrook, Calif., about 100 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
