I just saw on the news that part of the fire in simi has been put out. The good news is, so far, not one home has been lost in simi. {acording to the news}

Someone on JU posted this pic is on Clairemont Mesa Blvd in the Tierrasanta neighborhood.

Not too far from Sergey's place.

Wow, these fires are really getting bad.
Just heard some more stats on the news.
Over 700 homes burned, and something like 16 deaths
I sure hope they get these fires under control quickly

Best to all of you that are in the fire zone,
Fred

Thanks William! Things have simmered down some close to me. Sleep didn't come easy. It's downright ugly around here.

I wish Garry & all the others the best! I know they're tackling the same situations up there.

I talked to Sergey about an hour and a 1/2 ago. He's causiously optimistic and said there are at least 25 homes in his area that are gone. He's in the middle of the place though so he's hoping that it will stay to the outskirts and not get his home.

I think we are all hoping that.

Joe, you said the fires have calmed down some near you?

My wife and I watched the news last night while eating dinner.....so much fire, so much devistation.

I am glad to hear that all are safe....that above all is most important. I'll keep all those in harms way in my prayers.

It's my understanding that 6 mobile homes were lost near CA23. Other than that I've heard good news up here.

Hey everybody! I am at Blaine and Kat's. My family is at friends in Spring Valley. Have no idea about the house in Tierrasanta.

There is a dry brush canyon just accross the street that burns time to time. Looking at that picture posted earlier, the fire would have to jump two roads to get to my house.

Huge thank you to Blaine and Kat for the shelter. And thank you everybody who offered help. It means a lot.

JeepBBS backup archive was evacuated, so we have no problem there.

The answering machine still works. I have a mental image of it dangling on the piece of wire and smoking.

LOL, which one... the no sleeves ot the long sleeves, I think the JV pics showed him wearing the long sleeved one.

Sergey, well the answering machine is a positive thing and it means you still would have power. Hopefully it's not just hanging by the wire toying with you.

On another note, they are saying the 3 fires burning around SD may very well meet before this is all over. That can't be good.

That one was a cheap immitation. The real one, with blue stripes, was still in the closet. But I am not too worried, I think it was made out of matterial that doesn't burn....

I agree. Big headache for firefighters after they all meet in one spot and bump ther helmets.

Update from El Cajon:

I took these just across the street from my neighborhood a few minutes ago. The Crest fire is now ~1/4 mile from my neighborhood. The good thing is, winds have died down & it seems more fire crew are assigned than early yesterday. I don't know if they'll evacuate us, or if it'll come to that.

Suprisingly enough, these pics were taken next to the Walmart off the Los Coches/I-8 exit in El Cajon. It seemed like business as usual at Walmart.

On a happier note the San Diego Fire Department approved the return of residents to Tierrasanta and San Carlos, and some portions of Scripps Ranch. Only residents with proof of residency in the community are allowed in.

Looks like good news for Sergey....

hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. i'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone close to the fires. I read today that there is a bunch of backup firefighters coming from all over the western states to San Diego area, and the wind calming down is great news.

amazing picture from NASA: (linked due to size:~2MB)
