Building some new rockers

In an attempt to keep my mind off things I decided to start making some new rockers. These started out as currie low rise rockers modified by a good friend. I wanted to build a rocker that went to the bottom of the door. This 2" strip of 1/8's will get welded to the existing rocker, and then I will weld some 4" flat 3/16's plate on top of the two stips. Also used a piece of 1.5" angle to plasma a section out of the dom tubing and weld to the bottom of the currie rocker. Instant slider. Stll have to some more welding, cutting, and grinding, but I think they will be fairly beefy

So it looks like that overlay idea will work eh?

Cut the front of the tube at the same angle as the fenderwell. It will look better that way.

That's what I was planning on. Not sure what kind of bolts to use though. Any thoughts? And do you think I need to run a strip of metal inside the tub as well?

i have some countersunk bolts for you if you like.
blaine, i have a pile of things i need to get to you. axles from john, knuckles for brian, a pair of u bolt plates, a couple of leaf springs, and some tubing
i am planning to keep the schedule we discussed. would you like the items then?

chris.. the rockers look like they are taking shape. let me know if you need some of those cap screws. i think i have 1/4" and 3/8"

chris - blaine suggested I use some aluminum inside the tub after I tweaked my first set of curries. that was good advice. we tapped it and through bolted it from the outside.

I also used aluminum. I didn't tap mine, just drilled a hole and ran a stainless allen head bolt through with stainless nylon lock nuts on the inside.

Chris, you need to use flat head Phillips Stainless Steel machine screws in either 5/16's or 3/8's. You can also use a truss head or if you can stand the look, common hex head.

Anything else will give you a problem of some kind. Do not use internal hex of any kind unless it's socket head cap screws and they stick out too far for my taste.

The diameter of the fastener requires more torque in his application than can be handled by that small of a hex wrench.

The phillips equivalent can be torqued down to about 3 times more without problems and can be removed easily with a crescent wrench on a hex phillips driver or a phillips socket on a ratchet.

Here is a little better picture. Still needs a little fine tuning. The bolts on the sides are just temps. Have some recessed stainless hardware to hold them on with.
