JV junkies ?? comments please

Just say I was building a TJ with 37" tyres to only wheel JV type trails and I had a Warn rear bumber on it.

What would your recommendation be:
a/ Keep the bumber (good design, doesn't snag, offers good protection)
b/ Warn is OK but you'd be better of with a...
c/ To make the Warn bumper better you could...
d/ You'd be better off to make your own custom job that looks like...

I'm no expert.

I'd say a rear bumper is the least of your concerns for any trail at JV.

in fact, a stock rear bumper would be just fine with a properly set up rig.

currie makes a popular bumper for JV.

Ok so we have one vote for "return to stock"
Pros
* easy to do
* easy to replace when trashed
* pick them up for free
Cons
* no hitch/recovery point
* probably won't protect the rear panels

I never thought of this, but the idea does have some merit in a crazy sort of way. Thanks blkTJ.

This post is purely a rear bumper post, I'm not asking about other stuff just rear bumpers

Its a friggin' bumper. If you're serious about wheelin at the hammers, you'd not spend more than 1/2 of 1/2 a second worrying about the back bumper.

The only real concern for a rear bumper at JV is to have a secure tow point!

Matt, I don't recall how far they get to the sides of the tub, but your main worry is that the receiver is low profile, does not hang below the bumper, is has easy access for the pin.

Other than that, I think it should be fine if you already own it.

You obviously have not seen William's bumper his brother built or have forgotten it.

/\/\/\ That bumper is probably my favorite ever, home-made jeep part.

Anything that can send rock fragments flying 50 Ft away from impacts is okay in my book.

sethmark Oh ok, thanks for that, but today was bumper day. Tomorrow I will worry about something else, after that another issue, then after that something entirely different... the wheel is always turning.

bob91yj It is/ will be very secure.

Blaine Yep, I have one and was going to run local comps with it, but I have no need for the tyre carrier now and I was sorta concerned about it being a bit bulky and impeding clearance while not protecting the body corners. But today someone offered to buy it, so it will go, and I will have a custom one made. The bar doesn?t quite get to the sides of the tub.
Here's an OLD pic to give you an idea of what it looks like.

JeepGal Actually for a mass manufactured aftermarket product it is pretty good. To get better I think you'd have to get a specialised custom job. Dunno how the Currie ones compare.

I'd stop worrying about the stupid bumper, lose the pentel hitch, and start worrying about the stock gas tank skid.

Both those issues (pintle and fuel tank) are already sorted -- it's an old pic just to show the Warn bar.

Make your own custom one.
Mount it higher than stock (cover body lift if any)
Build in low profile reciever hitch
Build in recessed/low profile recovery points
Keep it as light as you can
Replace it when it bends

I like lexx's (jbits) bumpers as they are tube ( relatively light) and can be made to any specs you want.
