Ummm? What is this curse of the red YJ? Is it a local small group hing, or nationwide conspiracy thing against red yj's? My YJ used to be Red, now its half to 2/3s Black, am i OK? Or is this some inside joke?

Either way servicing U-joints is critical, I've had 2 or 3 go bad quick, and either replaced or they grenaded before then. Gotta love Scout's.

The curse of the red YJ.....

It was one of our first internet organized wheelin' trips, several years ago, in Death Valley.

A red YJ showed up, pretty much out of the blue, and managed to kill several tires and a transfer case on a gravel road (don't ask...the guy didn't have a clue what he was doing...didn't have parts, tools, or any knowledge of how to fix anything). Since that trip, there has always been the "red YJ" thing when talking about trips.

Thumbs up

Stu,

I swapped out the ujoints and center ball in my front shaft/cv today. Your write up prepared me well for what to expect. Thanks for taking the time to put that stuff on the internet.

I have come across an elusive picture of me actually working on my own Jeep... well, part of it anyway.

I can hardly believe it myself.

FINAL UPDATE...

Well, hmmm... reinstalled my rebuilt front shaft today. Still got some noise in 4hi. Must be something internal. At this point I'm not to worried about it, I never use the thing in 4 hi anymore anyway. If someday it ceases to function correctly... hello atlas II. It'd be nice to have an excuse to spend that kind of money on something... not that I need one.

Robert, you still have that beer coming, I did lose a weird vibration at highway speeds, that's worth something. I'm also now quite adept at changing ujoints, that's not a bad skill to have.

thanks all.
