No Fuel From Throttle Body
Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a 1987 YJ 2.5 Wrangler. It had the broken bolt in the head attaching the exhaust manifold. I removed the head and had it rebuilt. I have the engine put back together and I think every wire is hooked where it should be. The problem is it wont start. It cranks nice and has volts just doesn't seem to be getting fuel. There is fuel to the throttle body but not being shot in to the intake. It ran on ether as long as I squirted it and sounded nice. Any ideas on how to get the throttle body shooting fuel again? Any suggestion (within reseaon) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you |

Hmm, '87 was throttle body injection, I'm more familiar with the newer multi port injection on Jeeps.
This is a common problem with the MPI Jeeps - maybe it's the same for yours: The fuel pump is computer controlled and only runs for a few seconds, then shuts off if the motor does not start. This makes it VERY tough to prime the high pressure side of the fuel system. Do you have a way to bleed your fuel sytem at the throttle body? Newer Jeeps have a schraeder valve there for just this purpose. Can you hear the fuel pump run for a second or two, then shut off?

Hello
Thanks for replying Yes I can hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds. The fuel lines at the T.B. have fuel at them, when I loosen them they are charged with fuel. I was wondering if maybe something electrical wasn't tell the injector to release any fuel. It sounds like it wants to start but doesn't. I could loosen the lines to bleed them but it'd bleed them on to the manifold. Thanks George |

Is there a crankshaft position sensor or a camshaft position sensor in an engine from that era? If so, either one of those going bad would produce that exact symptom.

Hello everyone
Thank you very much for all your replies and ideas. My mechanic found the problem. I had swapped the two fuel lines where they connect on the throttle body. Its running now. Again Thanks everyone George |
