Question clearing fault codes 92 cherokee

Hi All,

I'm new to the board and hope someone can give me a hand. I read thru previous post for an answer , but didn't find one. I have a 92 cherokee 4wd that I'll never part with. I recently had a check engine lite and have repaired the problem. What I need to know is how to clear the fault code from the computer so the check engine light will go off. It's sure nice to have a forum where one can post questions. I happened accross this one thru a search engine. It looks like I'll be frequenting this sight often. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The codes can most likely be cleared by disconnecting your battery for 1-2 minutes, then reconnecting it. I would imagine your XJ has a similar computer to my TJs' and that's how I do it.

Don't know if you have Autozones where you are at, or if you are friendly with any of the managers there if you do but typically (at least around my house) they have programmers/scanners behind the counter and if you know a manager there, they will diagnose and clear codes for you for free.

I stopped by an Autozone near work and they let me use the scanner. While at it, I reset the codes. The next time I went there, they did it and then told me that is against policy to reset it.

I just do the battery disconnect method now.

Like I said, you have to be friendly with the management - the guy who runs the Azone near my house used to live next door to me

Thanks to all who replied to this topic. Looks like I'll disconnect my battery this evening when I get home from work. It's nice to have this forum to share ideas with fellow jeep enthusiasts.
Take care ....................Ruffneck
