Valve job

I need to do a lot of work on my Jeep in the VERY near future. New oil seals and ball joints in the axle, radiator hoses, thermostat etc.

While I have the front end off my Jeep I am thinking of re caming it and while I am at it doing a head-valve job.

That said, my Jeep has about 80k miles on it, does NOT use any oil and runs fine. The old school in me remembers when by 50k the engine NEEDED a valve job, but times have changed.

As for the cam, well it is not a NEED, but rather a: Hmm wonder how this would work.

Some will say, 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'. MUCH truth in that but some things require Preventive Maintenance, like radiator hoses etc.

Thoughts???

Do the preventative maintenance stuff.

Leave the internals alone.

You know a properly maintained 4.0L could easily see 250k or more before needing attention.

I agree with Allen, your 4.0L shouldn't even be close to needing a valve job yet. My 4.0L has 174,000 miles on it a valve job is not even close to being on my short list of things to do.

That seems to be the smart money thoughts, thanks, I appreciate it, guess I will pass on the cam/valve job and just stick with other PM efforts.
