Japanese "Cave" pics

I finally gotten around to downloading some pics I've taken over the last few weeks. These were taken of a Japanese cave system that were built in the 1930's and used by the Japanese during WWII.

Very few people besides high ranking Japanese military members have ever been allowed inside. Known as "The Cave" it's been closed off for several years due to wishes by the Japanese government.

We had some Japanese priest come inside and do some sort of blessing to it and the Japanese government has now agreed that we can open it back up to a very limited amount of tours in recent months.

My old roommate Robert actually works in a section of it that has been refurbished and is now the home of Destroyer Squadron 15 offices. Obviously these pics are of the still blocked-off areas.

Entrance:

Tunnel passageways:

Stairs:

These are wooden sitting benches which are skattered all about almost everywhere:

Overhead lighting (doesn't work)

Escape route that's closed-off:

This place was creepy inside. There are ~2.7 kilometers of tunnels. We explored almost every foot of it.

Ghost:

Well:

Water truck:

Rusty old bicycle. I think it may have belonged to Bransford.

Exit door to freedom:

Glad to be out.

Great pics. When I was stationed in Okinawa, we use to go cave exploring. Found some pretty cool stuff in the more remote cave systems. Had to be careful though, 50+ year old ordnance is no joke.
