Congratulations. Have fun with your new camera. If at all possible, try to read the instructions manual in its entirety at least once; looks like this camera should have many functions. Should have a good movie mode too.

I gather this camera uses standard AA cells. If you haven?t already, take a look at Sanyo Eneloop or MAHA Imedion batteries. I like those because they can sit charged in the drawer for months and self-discharge much slower than standard NiMH batteries do.

That is sweet Larry.

My wife has a Nikon which uses standard AA batteries, and I must admit it is very convenient. I'll be looking for a new camera shortly, and although I have my eye on the Nikon D40, I wouldn't mind one which uses "regular" batteries. I never had luck with rechargeable batteries, it seems they are always dead when I need them.

Does yours uses AA batteries as Sergey mentioned?

Lawrence,

Those are very different cameras. Despite its user friendliness and compactness, D40 is a digital SLR camera; Larry’s new camera is a point-and-shoot.

Even if you buy a camera that takes AA-size batteries, chances are you will be using rechargeable batteries anyways. What’s the alternative? Carry around a brick of Costco batteries, or go run to a gas station every time you need a fresh set?

But if you really, really want to use AA batteries with a D40 camera, you could do that with a battery grip like this.

Yes it does. I may get some rechargables, but its not used much so I may not need them. I'll toss some spares in the case. They claim the batteries last a long time, we'll see.
