Reenlistment Run, Los Coyotes

The time has come for more time..

That is to say I'm going to reenlist. (For those who don't know, I'm in the military).

I did a Jeep reenlistment two years ago up in Big Bear. and it was pretty fun. Unusual in some ways.

This time, I'm going to reenlist at Los Coyotes. While Big Bear has some challenging trails, Los Coyotes brings back memories of the early days of Jeep trips from the internet based socal wheelin contingent. I haven't been there in about two years, and as my wheelin time comes to a close (with my upcoming assignment, I'll be gone a lot).

A very gracious officer with a nicely built TJ will be coming out as well to preform the ceremony.

All are invited, it'll probably be a Saturday, and definately in early or mid June. There's plenty of options on trails, etc, I'll probably reenlist at some "midpoint", so if there's a large crowd, people could break off into seperate groups to run various trails. Probably the big oak tree that you can come out from dangerous road on the way to the creek road.

I'm open to suggestions. And it'd be cool to have folks come out and wheel LC once again.

Wow, has it been that long since you reinlisted? Already?

I haven't been out to LC in a long time as well, but I have no idea if I can make it. Might be a last minute decision for me.

I guess we'll just have to see.

Two years went by quick. I was running 33x10.50s on bent steel rims with a hard top with a busted window.

Far different from today!!

Scott had some pictures on his website, but it's down or something right now, and I can't get to it.

Some people are coming all the way from LA, and it's a hike from there to LC, so I'm gonna say we will meet at the campground (just before the split, and the turn up towards dangerous road) at 1000 am. It's a late start, but, no big deal for me. This will be an easy run.

I will be stoping at the bakery on the way in for Breakfast.

Just to reiterate on William's words:

Here are the coordinates of the meeting place:

N33.27268 W116.54231

This is a picnic area inside the reservation, convenient to prepare your rig to face the unpaved roads. This is the main camping area in a grove of oak trees.

There are two ways to go wheeling from there, North and North-East. We'll be going North.

To get there, you go through the gate, pay $15 per jeep, and drive about 2 miles. Los Coyotes Indian Reservation is near Warner Springs; take San Ignacio Rd East off Hwy 79. It's about 4 miles to the gate.

Hey William, last time we had a grand breakfast at the Julian Pie restaurant. It's right near the Julian Pie Company building at Santa Ysabel, closer to the corner of 78 and 79. They open at 8. There was a very nice verity of food, buffet style, and omelets. You, know, the real breakfast. It was what, about $8 a person (pies ? extra). Whanna go there?

I've never been to Dudley's bakery, what kind of breakfast offerings do they have there?

We should probably shoot to get out of Santa Ysabel by 9 AM. What do you think?

Who else's on for the breakfast part?

820 we are going in. The restaurant is right on the corner of 78 and 79. In Santa Ysabel.

I don't remember the exact name of the restaurant; I think it is called "Julian Apple Pie Restaurant" or something like that.

The Jullian Pie Company building is where we usually meet is next to the restaurant. On the other side of the parking lot there is a convenience store. The Dudley's bakery is just a little farther East on the 78. All three are on the same corner. I mean, it's all there, you can't miss it.

My jeep is white with a tan or spice hard top. William's jeep is green.

We'll be leaving Santa Ysabel for Los Coyotes at 900.

Well, if you are expecting all your friends to show up. We better call the LCIR ahead and let them know about the mass of people they should anticipate.

Brian.
Well,

Since we are doing relatively easy trails there, I was thinking about small BBQ at the end of the day, but not camping... Probably because I live so close. But I can see. I've only camped at LCIR once. Though I've been there until 11pm more than once.
