At what point is my 96 Grnd Cherokee a lemon?
1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd 4.0L... all was fairly normal until 60,000 miles. I'm at 96k now and within the last three years - under normal driving conditions - have had to replace the oil pump, fuel pump, water pump, swaybar linkage (twice!), put in an entirely new transmission, and plenty of miscellaneous annoyances. All to the tune of nearly $6,000.
Any similar experiences? At what point does this end?? Every time I'm ready to dump it, something else goes wrong and I have to shell out more dough, keeping deeper committed to this wreck. What's next??? |

It sounds to me like you either have really bad luck, aren't properly maintaining the vehicle or have a 'bum' Jeep. If you don't have too many mods on it, the body looks decent and you aren't too emotionally attached to it, I'd dump it and move on. Once a vehicle hits 100k miles it is a lot harder to unload.
Good luck.

I have a 98 Grand with around 80K miles on it and I can honestly say it is probalby the best vehicle that I or anyone in my family has ever owned.
I have beat on it and treated it poorly, with regards to lifting it and wheeling it fairly often for at least 2 years, and now that it is back to stock, it continues to work perfectly (albiet with some squeeks and clunks, all due to the way I treated it). I have had only four problems with it that weren't related to my modifications. 1) one of the tranny sensors went out, which caused it to shift funny. Easily replaced. 2) Radiator cracked and started a slow leak (Probably related to all the wheeling I did, but maybe not. Jeep radiators are known to wear out). 3) windshield wiper stalk control wore out and was replaced under warranty. 4)Fuel pump started to go on the fritz recently, causing hard starts. Everything else has worked fine on the jeep. I think you got a bum jeep. One that was built on friday. It sometimes happens, but from my personal experience, it is uncharacteristic. Our family also owns a 98 TJ and a 2000 Cherokee, and neither of those has had one spot of problem, other than a leaking pinion seal on the XJ(replaced under warranty). |

Well, we're kooky like that on this board.
HP 30's are well liked around here for a variety of reasons. |
