9" Front end
I found a Currie TJ H.P. 9" front end, 31 spline, Truetrac, discs, 1350 joints, 4.56 gears.
What is it worth, good used condition? Thanks 2000 TJ 4.0L, A/T, all factory options. Jeep Rater Score 360 http://www.hellbender.rockcrawler.com/ NRA Lifetime Member [This message was edited by Hellbender on June 17, 2001 at 10:27 PM.]

In reference to the 1350's, is that the u-joint in the axles, as in one ton front?

I think I lost it
Now I'll have to build something. mrblaine-- what's the formula??? All I need is the big outer U-joints, any diff, D44 or stronger is fine. I want to stay at stock width. 2000 TJ 4.0L, A/T, all factory options. Jeep Rater Score 360 http://www.hellbender.rockcrawler.com/ NRA Lifetime Member

It’s hard to say how much it is worth since it is unknown how much life is left in that front end. Definitely don’t pay more than a couple of grand.

That's about what I was thinking, maybe a little more depending on condition. This is a high dollar (estimate $4000 or so new) set-up though.

Brad, With Axle Jack around, it matters not what one ton front you find. He can modify any parts to work with any parts.
With the easy breakage of the 44 in the rear of Garrys, I am more inclined to go with the XJ HP 30. It is around 30 to 40 percent stronger driving on the correct side of the ring gear. Since few actually break the underslung 30 in a TJ, this safety factor and the great ground clearance seems to be a good way to go. Back to Garry's rear. It has shredded the gears twice and gone thru 2 complete sets of Currie axles. This is with less than a 100 miles of offroading. It is a HP being driven on the wrong side and is about 30 to 40 percent weaker than a reg 44 in the rear. The stock 44 had thousands of miles of offroading and only twisted off one axle. It is amazing to me just how much difference there is running stuff backwards. If you reverse those strength differences, it makes the XJ HP 30 look nearly bulletproof in most TJ's. As a comparison, the HP 30 in the front of Garry's is still unscathed with the same mileage on it as the rear. Axle Jack?????
Who?
I can get one of those (XJ D30)for free, what's the best way to get big joints in it? Or am I worrying for naught? Are the gears interchangable in the TJ and XJ D30? Is the entire ass'y (XJ D30) completely interchangable w/ the TJ? Thanks for the info. 2000 TJ 4.0L, A/T, all factory options. The XJ D-30 is a direct bolt-in. The gears are not interchangeable. XJ's are reverse cut and about 30 percent stronger than the standard cut TJ 30.
The Warn hub conversion is a direct bolt-in from the TJ 30, so no money lost there. The one I put in Kat's is from a 98 and is identical with the exception of the pinion height. Knuckles and axles bolt right up. It is not who you know, It is who knows you Jeeps do not make jeepers, jeepers make Jeeps.

FYI
Just so you know, they started using the lo-pinion in the XJs at some point, I believe the exact same axle as in TJs. I think in 2000, but I’m not sure. It’s just something to keep in mind if you’re calling around and someone is trying to sell one over the phone. If it’s out of a new XJ make sure the guy knows you want a high-pinion.
