4x4 Advocacy
It?s time for me to volunteer at bit more, so I?m considering becoming involved and therefore looking for contact information/links for organizations/groups/people that support or advocate for our 4x4 community with regard to trail access and other governmental and legal concerns.

Tom, you are most welcome to join in and assist any organization you wish, but I'd like you to take a serious look at Friends of Panamint Valley.
FOPV is poised to set a precedent in getting an illegally closed area reopened and in doing so pretty much altering the way the greenies and BLM do business with us from here on out. They have some background and the story on their website so take a look and see what you think.

Do not forget about Del Albright. www.delalbright.com
The biggest supporter of and founder of FOTR. He also has a Volunteer Leadership and Land Stewardship (VLLS) workshop that is well worth the time. The class I went to was free. Paid for by the sponsors that included Blue Ribbon Coalition, Rubicon Trail Foundation, CAL4Wheel Foundation, Hummer, UFWDA. I think I am forgetting one here, but they paid for us to spend three days at Robb's Resort with room and board, and food. All we had to do, was get there. Learned so much about being a leader of Volunteers. I think I am a good leader in the Navy, but it is a whole lot different with volunteers. We need more and more volunteers working to keep our lands open. Panamint is a good example, along with Clear Creek down here. But there are many fights in front of us, that many do not know about. The Mojave is another one that is coming, with the greenies wanting to close the whole desert because of the tortise there, and the possibility of them all dying off because we might scare them. We welcome you to this fight for our lands. Navy-Jeepster

Wow --- I had a feeling you guys would point me in the right direction. Thank you!
I?ll look into these groups over the holiday break. This may take some time; as a senior attorney for a major corporation I need to be extremely careful with my selection and gain permission from my client before getting involved in any volunteer legal work. Consequently, I may need to contact some of you off-line to discuss things a bit more. Again- thanks. |

Thanks for your support that you offer.
I am not sure what the Pacific NorthWest has, or needs in that area. Since that is where you live, I would start with them first, and offer up your services there. That way you help out trails in your backyard. I know from looking at the Pacific NorthWest Associations web site, and forum, they do have some issues with trails in the Idaho area. Here is a link to their web site: http://www.pnw4wda.org/ You have your work set out for you. Thanks Todd Navy-Jeepster
