A good start on an offroad trailer

For Dave Weston. He asked me to make a few mods to a little military trailer he drug up in the driveway.

His list went as follows-

Cut in a tailgate and stop it from being floppy afterwards.

Make the tailgate so you could sit on it without the trailer being hooked to anything and the tongue wouldn't lift.

Convert the drums to 5 on 4.5 so the new 33's would fit.

Make new fenders for the 33's.

Install a tongue jack with a caster so it could easily be pushed around.

The storage trays were my idea after needing a way to brace the lower edges of the fenders.

So this is what I came up with. The tongue jack has a pivot for the caster that you unlock to lock the caster up out of the way when towing.

Looks good. Any plans to meld the shiny with the OD green? I really like the swing gate vs. a drop down.

Considered it, but the paint store was all out of shiny aluminum colored paint.

In the pic you posted, in the left rear corner of the tub, toward the top, I see what I believed to be a hinge. Thus, I deduced it was a swing-out tailgate vs a drop down. No?

Very sweet Blaine. I like the extensions to hold the tailgate, and the down legs in the pic in your garage. They could be used as "outriggers" to stabilize it if a roof top tent is mounted. The storage is also very nice, good job.

Looks like a really straight M100. Lunettes are overrated. Just MHO.
