Why does your whole solenoid pack have a hole in it? I'd start there.

motor test for warn winch

MOTOR TEST PROCEDURE

1. Put the winch in freespool.

2. Disconnect the positive lead from the battery (leave the ground lead attached).

3. Label and disconnect the three cables that run from the control pack to the three posts on the motor.

4. Stamped next to the three posts on the motor will be "A", "F1" and "F2". Run a small jumper wire (5"-6" dead lead, 8 ga. will work just fine) from "A" to "F1" and put power from the battery (jumper cables work good) to "F2". The winch motor should run in one direction at this time.

5. Next, place the jumper wire from "A" to "F2" and put power from the battery to "F1". The winch motor should run in the opposite direction at this time.

If these steps are followed correctly and the motor runs in both directions, the motor is good.

That's what you want or that's the only thing available?

Last rumor I heard was that technology was not quite ready for public consumption.

What does that MOSFET control cost? I know the the MOSFET winches are about $500 more than the non-MOSFET one is. Solenoids are cheap in comparison.

MOSFET stands for metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistor. One of the many transistor subtypes.

This is so cheesy they use MOSFET in the name.

It's like if Jeep named the TJ a "Bipolar Wrangler", since most of the stand alone transistors they use inside are bipolar.

Well I wanted it if the solenoid was a problem cause I mount under the hood and they are water proof seald units.

but Jeff is right 500-600 fo rthe unit or 15 bucks for a soleniod so let me think whuch is better

for 600 I would be iver half way to a new winch.

Scott

PS motor tested fine, a cable has a bad connection though so new cable and I am set.

at 15 bucks is it worth having a spare solenoid?? I have never heard of a problem.

I recommend carrying two spare solenoids. My luck has shown that if I only replace one in the circuit that the other will die soon after.

My MX8000 built in 1977 had a solenoid go bad. Since one went bad I just replaced them all and called it good. They tend to last a long time.
