Surprise Canyon

picked this off the FOTR email list...

------- via email -------

Folks,

I know this is not about the Rubicon, but it is about access and we are all agreed that that is very important.

The LA Times is going to run a story putting forth the pro-access point of view with regard to Surprise Canyon. I'm forwarding below an email from Lee Romney, the Times reporter who is doing the story. I've already spoken to her and she is anxious to speak to any more people who have winched up Surprise and feel strongly about the value of the place for recreational
use.

If any of you have made this trip, please give her a call and tell her what you think.

Andrew

Subject: Hoping to talk to folks for a story about Surprise Canyon

Hi there. My name is Lee Romney. I'm a reporter with the LA Times and working on a story about the fate of Surprise Canyon. The BLM and Ntl Park Service is in the process now of determining whether the closure to Off-road Vehicles will be permanent or if a compromise is possible. I'm eager to talk to some 4WD enthusiasts who have winched up the canyon and feel strongly
about the value of the place for those recreational uses.

I came across this listerv in a web exchange from a couple of years ago and hope it's still active.

I can be reached at 1-800-LA TIMES, ext. 74884.

Thanks!

Lee...

DON'T EVER BELIEVE REPORTERS!
Especially from the LA Times.

They lie. They say they are doing one thing and then take your words out of context and make you look the fool. Never trust the basturds!

Been there.........

Isn't there any Grand Dad that can't hike due to a war injury that has a granddaughter with some medical ailment that prevents her from hiking, but he has a jeep ...

Ya know, one of those tear jerking stories lie the ones Bill Clinton used to tell
